QUOTE(lakshmi @ Jun 14 2008, 05:53 PM) *

BROOKLYN BRIDGE

Thanks Venkat. In my opinion, walking is the best way to see many important and interesting points. The next pic is Brooklyn Bridge.

The work which is most likely to become our most durable monument, and to convey some knowledge of us to the most remote posterity, is a work of bare utility; not a shrine, not a fortress, not a palace, but a bridge." - Harper's Weekly (1883)

This bridge over the East River joind the boroughs of Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. It is one of the largest suspensionbridges. It took more than 13 years to complete itand was completed in 1883. Pedestrians can walk on the top of the bridge. The architect was John Augustus Roebling. The cables are made out of steel.

That is me in the photo

Lakshmi,

Thanks for sharing these nice photos. I also enjoy reading your nice write up about the places you visit. Would love to see some more pictures.
From my visits, I found additional advantages to walking in Manhattan. The first time we visited NY, our car got towed. We ended up wasting several hours to recover our vehicle. When we lived in Philadelphia, we used to visit NY very often.

Thanks Exon. No matter how many times I see New York City, I would have missed somethings next time I visit the city. Philadelphia is another historic place. Used to visit often and enjoyed the famous Pagano pizza.

In my opinion, the best way to see a country is through driving and the best way to see a city is through walking.Used to drive in New York City, gave up. Too many cabs, too many constructions. Best is to walk or take the sub way.

Washington D.C. is the capitol of US. It is another fantastic place to visit.. Here is a photo of Washington monument in D.C. This beautiful, 555 feet sand colored obelisk was built in mid 1800s to honour our first president, George Washington. This photo was takenfrom Lincoln Memorial.

I thought so Marcilo.

I went to Queens yesterday(by myself) and walked in Flushing meadow park and by Arthur Ashe stadium. I have been to this park many times while living in Queens 1n early 70s . Here are a few photos of this Unisphere. This is the world's largest globe given to 1964 worlds fair by US Steel corporation. It is 140 ft high, made out of steel and symbolizes universal peace.

Lakshmi,

How about organizing a meet of HFers somewhere in US, when some of us folks here come there visiting our folks there? Do you think it is a wild idea or is feasible at all?

Venkat

I have changed many views in life since my childhood, but not my view of Rafi Saab as the God-sent Gandharva who visited this Earth briefly to spread ultimate ecstasy among genuine music-lovers!

Very good idea Venkat. There are quite a few members living here and East Coast would be the best meeting place. What do you think Marcilo?
