Dear friends
Today is 23rd October, just one month from the birth anniversary of Geeta ji which is on 23rd November. Can we all music lovers come together a pay a tribute to this honey voiced singer? As most of us know, she has sung for several composers, known and unknown, in her career from 1946 till her untimely death in the year 1972. Based on the information shared here on HF, I have come up with a list of composers (that I know) she has sung for : Here is the list of 135 composers for whom Geeta ji has sung and are known to us so far Amal Mukherjee Anal Chattopadhyay Anil Bagchi A R Qureshi Ali Akbar Khan Aadil - Ahmed Amal Mukherjee Anil Biswas Arunkumar Mukherjee Avinash Vyas Aziz khan B N Bali B S Kalla Basant Prakash Bhola Shrestha Binod Chattopadhyay Bipin Babul Bipin Dutta Bulo C Rani C Arjun C Ramachandra Chick Chocklet (A.X. Babul Bose (from the duo Bipin-Babul) Bhupen Hazarika Dattaram Gadekar - Vikram Shashikala Dulal Sen - Black Prince 60s unreleased film Firoz Nizami Kamal Dasgupta Lala Asar Sattar Mohd Shafi - Mohabbat ki Jeet Mukund Masurekar - Didi Neenu Majumdar - Raj Rattan P Nageshwar rao - Circus King R A Paijankar Rajhans - Ek tha Ladka Ram Prasad - Dolati Naiyya Rafiq Ghaznavi Ramlal R A Paijankar P Nageshwar rao Pt. Amarnath S N Nandi - Pujya Gandhiji 50s unreleased film S Krishnan & Manohar - Tarzan and Captain Kishore (1964) Shankar Dasgupta Shankar Rao Vyas Can we all share just one song (solo or duet) per composer and complete "century" of her songs till 23rd November this year? I always wanted to do this thread and this seems to be the perfect occasion. I have realized that any one person can not do such a huge task, team work can only make it happen. A kind request to all to participate in this thread and make it a success. It will be nice if we can write a few lines about the composer and a pic (if available). Looking forward to hear from you all. I will take the responsibility of updating the list of composers. Once a song composed by a particular composer is shared, I will make his/her name bold. Also, in case I have missed any name, please post the same here, so that we can keep the list updated. It may be possible that for a particular composer, the audio may not be available. Hence we need as many names of composers as possible, so that we can share at least 100 songs if not more. Bhavita,
Kanu Ghosh and Kanu Roy are two different person AFAIK. And Kanu Roy is not related to Geeta ji. Her only brother who was a MD is Mukul Roy. More information about Kanu Roy is on our website here: http://geetadutt.com/kanu.html Also, the music of Shart was also composed by Hemantda. Parag..this is very thoughtful of you ...Such a fantastic tribute to the incomparable Geeta .. Venkat We wanted to do this and it was also attempted in the past but could not be completed. Today morning I thought about it and felt that this was the right time to do this thread. We all put together surely can come up with 100 songs in a month's time. In Marathi there is a saying "Gaav kareel te raav kaay kareel" meaning : One rich man can not do what the whole town can do. It basically tells that a collective effort will always work. Just a week ago I read an article somewhere that said Kanu Roy was her brother. Will forward that.
Sorry about the music of Shart. Will chage it. Joy, sorrow, tears, lamentation, laughter — to all these music gives voice, but in such a way that we are transported from the world of unrest to a world of peace, and see reality in a new way, as if we were sitting by a mountain lake and contemplating hills and woods and clouds in the tranquil and fathomless water. - Albert Schweitzer Without music life would be a mistake - Friedrich Nietzsche Where words fail, music speaks - Hans Christian Anderson Music is spiritual. Just a week ago I read an article somewhere that said Kanu Roy was her brother. Will forward that. Mukul Roy, brother of Geeta ji has confirmed very clearly to Haimanti Banerjee ji (author of the book "Geeta Dutt: The Skylark") that Kanu Roy was not related to them. Here is the family tree of Geeta Roy and Guru Dutt, all thanks to Amrita ji (Geeta ji's sister), Haimanti ji and our own HB. Cheers Parag Attached image(s) Please visit www.geetadutt.com

No worries Bhavita, we all were also under the same impression all these years. I think the common last name "Roy" was the reason for the misunderstanding for many people.
Added 5 more composers to the master list: Aziz khan Zafar khursheed R A Paijankar P Nageshwar rao Jag phool kaushik Regards Parag Please visit www.geetadutt.com
