Are they doing things to make it green? I know Delhi was horrible, one would ride bike in white shirt and get off with grey if not black. Pollution was taking its toll. One good thing they did was to start Metro line and switch over to CNG. It feels lot better than what it used to be. Do you guys have tube / Metro in Lahore too? Governments in Pakistan aren't accountable. They are generally corrupt and poor administrators. The PPP is completely useless. The Army has its business interests like the huge monopoly NLC (road transport company) so mass transit and rail do not interest them when they can make money with NLC contracts. The Sharif Bros are good administrators but lack vision. There was a hue and cry in Lahore a few weeks back the pollution and absence of a public transport system. The Sharif solution was to dampen protests through a half-hearted measure like announcing the import of 50 buses and at the same time speeding up work on by-passes, expressways, dual carriages etc. that turn green belts into concrete jungles. Lahore and Karachi have environmentally passed beyond a point of no return.....which is very unfortunate....sorry to hear about Delhi too.....India at least has a functioning rail system. Pakistan's has actually receded since independence.... QUOTE Of course, none of these pics remotely suggests that Lahore is now the most polluted city in Pakistan, which would put it in reckoning for the world's most polluted city! Pakistan has gone from a population of 50 Mn at partition to 170+ Mn and counting today. Pakistan is the country which has the most CNG driven vehicles. And now there is a new Metro Bus system (CNG), although presently covering a smaller part of the city. ============================== For me, listening to Mohammad Rafi is an addiction! |

Lovely pics. No wonder the elders used to say Jinne Lahore Ni Vekheya O Jameya Hi nahi.
Nice to see government is trying to make it environmentally better. It should be made more tourist attractive too. Best Regards
