The amount of great songs and hits Rafi saab had during this time (1977 onwards) is just unbelievable. Leave aside the rest of his career, just this one phase is enough proof of his greatness.

The 50's and the 60's he absolutely left all the competition behind, everyone from Lata, Asha to Mukesh, Manna and Kishore etc. acknowledged that he was far ahead of the rest. Has there been any singer who sang for virtually everyone, and had such a wide range, unique melodious and sweet voice combined with being so versatile ?.

<Post edited as contained objectionable statement>
The Grand Marshall (along with his son), and he was on the receiving end of lots of nonsense from the media, it didn't bother him, he came back so strongly and proved he was the best.

How did he come back ? (and before controversy starts again, I mean comeback onto the charts as before, even though he was giving hits previously as always).

1977 onwards sees him return the top and from 1979-1982 it is a Rafi show all the way. Anyone who followed the Binaca Geet Mala trends knows for sure the impact Rafi made in those three years with his songs everywhere and other singer's songs hardly around. No male singer has been able to rule the way he did (and for that long), past or present.

<Post edited as contained objectionable statement>

I don't know how anyone or why anyone is compared to Rafi, its such a waste of time. Then again he is the benchmark, so its bound to happen.

Unlike the sisters who played politics, he never indulged in them, and when another talent became popular thanks to the backing of one of my absolute favourite MD's, The Grand Marshall (along with his son), and he was on the receiving end of lots of nonsense from the media, it didn't bother him, he came back so strongly and proved he was the best.

Not even Lata Mangeshkar made such an impact as Rafi did. She may have been the Diva of female playback singing, but Rafi was ahead of her.

Interesting. How did you arrive at such bogus conclusion?
Lata fans make a note of this please. wink.gif biggrin.gif

QUOTE(princeali @ Oct 27 2007, 06:59 AM) *

not because Rafi was easier to get along with than Lata, but because of the fact that without Rafi, their songs wouldn't have been that great, and they wouldn't be able to present their compositions because no one could sing them besides 'Saatwan Sur'.

Who declared it as fact ? Any supportings you have?

I don't think I have to mention their names Chintu-ji. It is well known in the media and reported by many well-known film journalists of the past and industry insiders. Why did I bring t up ?. To show that Rafi didn't need politics to keep his position, it was natural. This is an opinion.

QUOTE
Interesting. How did you arrive at such bogus conclusion?
Lata fans make a note of this please. wink.gif biggrin.gif

How is it bogus ?. This is just an opinion based on what I have read (from credible sources), as well as from various industry insiders that I have come across in the past, and my observations. You don't have to agree with me if you don't want to, we all have different opinions. Mind you, I am also a Lata fan as well. Ofcourse she made a huge impact, she was the best on the female side, but Rafi is a different story, he was a phenomenon.

QUOTE
Who declared it as fact ? Any supportings you have?[/b]

My supportings are interviews in the past from several MD's that without Rafi they wouldn't be able to compose those songs. This is from Vividh Bharti interviews, DD telecasts, interviews etc.

QUOTE

I don't think you read my statement cleary. I mentioned during the rift, most composers sided with Rafi which is a fact. I can provide stats but that will take extensive research and time which I am willing to do but not now with my midterms. Look back into history and see how many composers sided with Lata for 'duets' during the years 64-66. This does not have anything to do with other Rafi combinations, and yes I have heard a lot of other singer combinations Thanks smile.gif

How does it cotradict that statement ?. I mentioned over there that everyone has a right to an opinion, and here I was stating an opinion. I have not degraded any artist, by mentioning politics, it does not degrade the two sisters, it just mentions what everyone else has been mentioning for a long time now.

Admin,

How has my post in any way been demeaning ?. I have just stated what is written out there on the Net. Are you telling me that we cannot express opinions ?. Then what is this forum for ?. If you look at my track record, I have never written demeaning or objectional posts, and I never intend to. I am a senior member of this forum (by that I mean I've been here from the time the forum started) and if a member has complained, then I think they don't know the difference between demeaning posts, actual posts that degrade an artist and ones that express an opinion. It's a pity that the situation has come to this, warning members who express opinions, and not taking action against members who write filth. I guess gone are those days where justice is served.

If I express an opinion mentioning Rafi had the backing of everyone of the "Big MD" camp, and Lata did not, it is an opinion based on lots of proof. If someone writes the same about Lata vis a vis Rafi, it is again an opinion and in no way demeaning to Rafi. Are you going to warn a member if they write that about Rafi on the Lata forum, when it is in no way demeaning or objectionable ?. If it is their opinion, let it be, when it comes down to it, tell them to show proof.

There are far more hedious posts that are written in HF, to edit mine is hilarious because it doesn't contain anything demeaning or objectionable. How is anybody to discuss anything if we can't express our opinions ?.

Its alright though, if a member complains, it is your job to take action, I understand, so its best if we leave it at that. Certain members don't know the difference between what is demeaning and what isn't, they let their emotions get in the way.

I simply stated the obvious which was not demeaning nor objectionabe at all. It's sad it is seen that way. Some of my friends on this forum have in the past been warned for expressing their opinion in a totally undemeaning way, I don't understand why, but I know its because some members can't bear to see the reality of things.

Cheers

Posted by: princeali Oct 28 2007, 11:25 PM

I think I shouldn't have continued writing about Rafi and given examples of his top position vis a vis others (again as examples). I should have stopped at writing about his 1977-80 period (includng 1979-82). I didn't know the reaction that would occur. I think this should only remain a song sharing thread started by Razia. We have already had many controversies in recent times, no need for another one smile.gif.

Unfortunate, Prince Ali Ji. The latest ideology here seems to be 'All singers are equal', 'All members are equal', 'All songs are equal', 'All periods are equal', 'All MD's are equal'. And so on.

So, just upload and download from now onwards!

Dear Music Lover !

You have to enusure that bit rate doesnot exceed 96-196 Kbps. Further the song is to be compressed
in either rar or zip format. Pls follow these rules and you would be uploading songs without any hassle.

Is this irrelevant reference necessary Mr Prince. Which sisters you are talking
about here??

>> fair comment, Prince bhai the sisters comment is not relevant to this discussion

QUOTE(princeali @ Oct 27 2007, 06:59 AM) *

Not even Lata Mangeshkar made such an impact as Rafi did. She may have been the Diva of female playback singing, but Rafi was ahead of her.

Interesting. How did you arrive at such bogus conclusion?
Lata fans make a note of this please. wink.gif biggrin.gif

>>>And bade bhai ji how did you arrive that this conclusion is bogus laugh.gif Prince bhai has the right to air his opinion that by no extent of ones imagination is ludicrous when the nightangle has herself conceded on many ocassions that Rafisaab filled the void left by Saigal (besides commenting on the rare and unmatched skills of Rafisaab that most HFM fans are well aware) . Any one who has an iota of understanding of music would know that magnitude and meaning of Lata's testimony. The use of the word "bogus" is most inappropriate

>>>I dont think Lata fans (or for that matter anyone else) need to loose their sleep and their cool over this statement as knowledgable fans are well aware about the elite status of Lata ji in HFM.

QUOTE(princeali @ Oct 27 2007, 06:59 AM) *

not because Rafi was easier to get along with than Lata, but because of the fact that without Rafi, their songs wouldn't have been that great, and they wouldn't be able to present their compositions because no one could sing them besides 'Saatwan Sur'.

>>> here a member is simply voicing his opinion and I wonder why it has upset others, fair comment

Who declared it as fact ? Any supportings you have?
It seems that you have not heard any of Lata-Kishore, Lata-Manna,
Lata-Hemant, Lata-Mukesh duets. laugh.gif

>>>These statements are not only irrelevant but also most unfortunate as names of other legends have being dragged. Prince bhai has not used or made any comparisons and for a senior member to make these kind of statements is shocking to say the least and goes against the norms of this forum.

>>>This thread is about Rafisaab and Rafians are entitled to discuss and share the rare, intrinsic, excpetional and unmatched qualities of the Emperor of singing. I suggest that members who do not like hearing facts about Rafisaab either keep silent or they are free to go to other threads where Rafisaab is not discussed. I hope this is a fair comment.

>>>Please note that as responsible members we need to maintain mutual respect and respect the norms of this forum smile.gif

Unfortunately or fortunately, SS Ji, probably as no interesting discussions/material exist in some other forums, some of (mind you, only some, not all) their members make a beeline to the Rafi Forum. As they do not know much about the subject to contribute in any way, they only keep finding faults.

Venkat

PS. 'making a Beeline' just means gathering readily at a place. It does not connote that the people concerned are BEEs, by any reckoning! I am making this clear as somewhere else, I was blamed of name-calling when I used a similar expression/proverb to make my point.

Now, we, the habitual posters on everything, should clear out in all fairness, as we do not want Razia Ji's thread to be hijacked yet again! My apologies yet again, Razia Ji.

Thanks Venkat-ji and SS-ji for your comments, greatly appreciated smile.gif .

SS-ji, I know the sisters was irrelevant to the topic, but I only brought it up as an example that Rafi was beyond all that. I don't think it degrades them in any way, because whatever they did is what they thought best at the time (which is why I brought it up), nothing more, nothing less. I consider the Nightingale the greatest (and most technical)female voice ever, beyond comparison, and the other Mangeshkar sister very versatile, both are legendary.

I fully agree with both yours and Venkat-ji's comments.

My apoloigies as well to Razia-ji for all the has happened recently on her thread.

That is meant to be a joke, right? It's quite obvious you haven't been following any discussions on this forum for a very long time.

This is the Rafi forum, and we know very well how such things are done, as a matter of fact you would be delighted to know that we're doing very well on our own, so the teaching aid is quite unnecessary - thank you very much.

There might have been in the past "harsh conflicts" ( in your words ), we prefer to call it healthy differences of opinion or civil disagreements, but that never came in the way of us co-existing in harmony. You seem to have totally missed that.

Let's see, how long have you been here anyway? You do the math, and things will become a little more clear. Here's a helpful tip that you'll thank me for, browse through at least a few of the 100 odd pages on a variety of topics on this forum and post your opinion on them first - have you done that? I don't think so.

QUOTE(razia @ Oct 19 2007, 12:43 PM) *

Well these controversies are never ending and certainly not serving my purpose. Some of you may reckon it as a retreat but I am changing the name of the thread. Pls contribute to this thread by posting songs.

You do recognise your own quote, don't you?

The 'trouble-makers' on this forum are weeded out and 'muzzled', the admin announces a week's leave of absence, and without wasting another moment, here you're soliciting a 'discussion' that you were so vehemently averse to the other day - the timing cannot be all coincidental.

Let's drop all pretensions, shall we? We know the motive / intention / object / purpose is to cause trouble in the admin's absence - i am sorry to disappoint you, but it isn't going to succeed.

It would be best if you settle for the songs ( Wasn't that the "purpose" of this thread - check your quote above ) and leave the "discussions" out of it. Think it over.

I'll keep repeating the above post if this thread ever strays from the original title and "purpose" of its thread starter - "In Search Of Rafi Songs From 1977 To Onwards"

Hi Folks!

My regards to all contributors. Here are few numbers of Rafi Sahib to add to this thread.

Donot you think that in the era of post 1977, Rafi sounded best. Pls put in your comments and for God sake
no hard/harsh conflicts this time. We must learn to be patient and argue constructively to validate our opinions.

Furtherance to it, if not agreed to above, pls opine that in which era rafi sahib sounded best? Few Songs to
this effect may also be quoted (not posted) in this regard.

Hi Razia,

I also love Rafisaab's late 70's voice much more than in the early part of his career, you may want to read this topic with differing views from HF friends.

Dear Sajdah!

Why are u offended. One can also give a short and upto mark reply as Iqbal bhai has done.

Rafi sahib is loved by all of us. I just asked to pin point that era in which rafi sahib sounded best in our
opinions. Since I have initiated this thread mainly for songs , so i would like short replies.

I hope u understand my view point.

I don’t know about the other Rafians here, but this Rafian hates to be ordered around. I only take orders from the One Above, and those who genuinely care about me.

Now you can understand why i don’t feel at all comfortable with that post of yours. You seem to have quite clearly forgotten your p’s and q’s – well, please allow me to help you find your way back.

1. I don’t remember your ever thanking Music Lover & me for the songs that he and i shared on this thread, can you? ( It’s only plain courtesy! )

2. Check your latest post asking for more songs I don’t see a 'please' there, do you?

This is a music forum, not a boot camp so i hope you would adjust your language accordingly.

Thats a sixer! laugh.gif

Razia! Meri behen! MAS is not like just another forum, it has got a culture of its own, you better get accustomed to that. Participation from new members has always been welcomed here but it doesn't look nice when you join in and straight away try to practice your own protocols. What do you think? I hope you won't mind. rolleyes.gif

('MAS' stands for 'Meri Awaz Suno'......Its a name used originally for Mohd Rafi's group at Yahoo groups, and the practice still continues here as well.)

i've been motivated by music lover to upload...so these are my contributions from yousendit

the highlight is a 320 kbps clean quality of "shirdwale sai baba" from amar akbar anthony. "pyar ka dushman" in clear quality from same movie is also inlcluded as is 'kaun kisiko baandh sakega" from kaaliya, rafi-kishore "chor sipahee" title song, some other songs, and some live performance by rafi in west indies singing in various langauges (if these were before 1977 - i apologize).

I think i’ll do myself a favour and keep out of this thread from now on. I can't help being so blunt – it’s a trait that often brings with it very unpleasant consequences. Not that this thought is ever going to stop me from speaking my mind, God Forbid. closedeyes.gif

Razia!

Yes, MAS is very special and i’ll miss being associated with it.

Razia, you are doing a splendid job. Your thread is less than a month old and is running into the tenth page. Perhaps after Steven Bhai's thread, it is the fastest growing thread.

What magic do you use? My own history of thread growing has resulted in utter failures.

In November 20, 2004, I started a thread going by the name of "Binod's Tidbits" covering the period of the Forties and Fifties. It stopped growing after the second page. Then in March 10, 2005 I started a thread by the name of "The Romantic Sixties." It did manage to crawl up to four pages. Somewhat encouraged I began the Swan Song Period covering the seventies and the end period. However, it refused to budge beyond the starting page despite all the prodding I could do.

Since that time I have no thread that I could call my own home and have been wandering from thread to thread like a nomad or a homeless person.

Keep up the good work as well as your spirits Razia and you will go a long way and take us all with you there. Do not be disheartened by any hurdles that come across your path as this is what life is all about. Regards.

Thanks for your kind advice Sajdah. On hind sight, perhaps I need to treat myself to a bout of SWAT for not thinking of the SWOT analysis before embarking upon so many Quixotically foolish misadventures. Hi Razia,

First of all nice thread.

The Swayamvar song,"Ek Mahal Maa Chham Chham Karti", that you upload here is directly the one you download from my thread[Swayamvar(1980)] on Nov. 5.

Same file. Please give credit. I am also a newbie here, and would love to hear feedback about my audio rips.

In any case if anyone is interested, there are 2 Mohd. Rafi duets on that album.

Pls put in your comments.

We must learn to be patient and argue constructively to validate our opinions.

Hi,

Is Rafisaab really in this song as credited?

I can't seem to find Rafisaab's voice - What do you Rafians think?

It's mainly a Chorusy song except for the one line...Usko Bhulaado (who is this singer?)

Thanks
