Tucked away in musty film vaults and anonymous battered tin cans lie spools of silver nitrate film nostalgia, lost performances and incomplete movie history.

Gazab (1978)
Directed by Manmohan Desai, it boasted one of the biggest star casts of the 1970s. "It was too big to even take off. No one came forward to finance the film,'' says writer Prayaag Raj.

Devaa (1987)
Two titans, showman Subhash Ghai and Bachchan, came together. After a week's shooting led to a clash of egos, Ghai shelved the dacoit magnum opus and vowed never to make it with another star.

Alishaan (1988)
A swashbuckler with the Big B, based on Scaramouche. Was derailed after a week's shooting when Bachchan, together with Javed Akhtar, decided to take on the media by working on Main Azad Hoon.

Shiva (1978)
It mixed-and-matched the two must-have themes of the 1970s-the lost-and-found brother and the angry young man. Bachchan was the violent elder brother and Romesh Sharma the Gandhian sibling.

Sarfarosh (1979)
Starring Amitabh Bachchan and directed by Manmohan Desai, the hottest combo of the 1970s. Bachchan played a convict. Also starred Parveen Babi, Rishi Kapoor, Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor.

Tiger (1980)
A film about the discord between two brothers spilled off-screen into a fight between the producers and stars. The film was named after the Bachchan character in Rakesh Kumar's hit Khoon Pasina.Tiger (1980)

Bandhua (1989)
J.P. Dutta's first film with Bachchan about bonded labourers never took off. Was produced by H.A. Nadiadwala and also starred Waheeda Rehman and Pooja Bedi.

Shinaakht (1988)
Secret agent Bachchan loses his memory during a mission and is discovered by college girl Madhuri Dixit. Tinnu Anand abandoned it after a week, because it was "too similar to the theme of Ganga Jamuna Saraswati".

Sarhad (1976)
J.P. Dutta's directorial debut about Indian prisoners of war, starring Vinod Khanna, was half done when the producers ran out of finance. The film was abandoned and Dutta had to wait another nine years for Ghulami. But the high point was meeting future wife Bindiya Goswami on the sets.

Khabardar (1984)
Anand meets Whose Life Is It Anyway. This euthanasia-themed film had Bachchan as the doctor and Kamal Haasan as the terminally ill patient. Producers pulled the plug after 16 reels, fearing controversy.

Dharmaan sahab

Nice concept and a great thread.

Little info from the era of my interest (50s and 60s). Producer Director Guru Dutt started several projects and shelved them after shooting a few reels. Some of them were re-made by other directors and turned out to be superhits..

Cheers
Parag

Another shelved Big B film is : Ram Ki Seeta Shyam Ki Geeta with Sridevi.

They kept Khuda Gawah also in cans in late 80s after initail start.
When it started the cast was
Amitabh, Sridevi
Farah - playing Shilpa Shirodkar's role .
Shilpa - playing younger sridevi's role and
Sanjay Dutt - Nagarjuna's role

When they revived it Sri requested to play both mother/daughter role to Mukul Anand. She had a great success in Chalbaaz where she played dual roles and her other films where she played one Banjaran/Gurudev were lying on cans.

Thnx for the Additions Guys

Khuda Gawah (1978)
Bachchan as a cowboy? Anything was possible in the 1970s. The film didn't get beyond a few days but the producer re-used the title in a 1992 film, with Bachchan yet again in the lead role.

LOL

lagta hai tum aur hum hi yeh films complete kareinge, varna aur koi nahin inhein complete karnewala.

To make these films today would be totally different, 70's and 80's ki filmon ka maza hi aur tha, today every other film is a take off of hollywood, but back then bollywood was original , they didnt give a damn what the world would say about our films, they just made the way they thought best, but today all the producers and directors are hollywood concious, everything needs to match hollywood standards, but the originality lies in not giving a S**T about being technically brilliant but giving your story a true vision, which greats like Manji, Prakash Mehra, Raj Khosla,Vijay Anand, Subhash Ghai (upto Ram Lakhan) exactly did.

How i wish all these imcomplete films had materialised, especially Devaa and Bandhuaa

though-maine 1988 ke baad ki shayad hi koi film dekhi ho but bro--artist pehle ke achche thhe-films aur artists simple hote thhe--lekin--film makin ab improve hui hai--thoda experiment ka scope open hua hai.
but old is always gold.

Chor Mandali (1983) is another shelved film, in which I'm trying to at least get the soundtrack. This soundtrack had one of the last recorded songs by both Rafisaab (3 years after death) and Mukeshji (a whole 7 years after his death). Imagine a soundtrack with Alka Yagnik, Mahendra Kapoor, Kishoreda, Dilraj Kaur, Anuradha Paudwal, Anwar, Manhar, etc. in one film! Music by Kalyanji Anandji and the main stars were Raj Kapoor, Ashok Kumar, and Vinod Mehra.

In some article, they said that this film might be released soon, but when?

Out of curiosity, does anyone have the soundtrack for this?

Another shelved film (is it? please confirm) is Chand Grahan in 1997? I know it had two Mukeshji songs in there.

Ramesh Sippy was trying to make a rustic action love story after Saagar called "Zameen". Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi were cast together for the first time, the film got shelved and revived in early 90s but didnot complete. The producer was simultaneously making another film with Amir Khan called "Time Machine" which also starred Raveena Tandon & Rekha. This got shelved as well!

Here is a pic from Zameen . Does it look like Ramesh Sippy was trying to create another character like Basanti??

All my favorite people are hanging out in this thread. biggrin.gif I bow to their wisdom on all things Bollywood, the history, the trivia......love the pictures, they add so much. So many canned AB films, wow. That's a great picture of Sri, Sangeet, her expression says it all, doesn't it? LOL @ "Goondaism" in Sadhu-Sant poster!

I can't add anything THEY don't know already, but a few pictures for the rest, discuss, lol.
