Happy Festivals

As we all know, North Indians & especially Punjabi’s special festival Lohri is near. Mostly, Lohri festival is celebrated by Punjabis but as unity in diversity prevails, so every Indian origin person likes to celebrate different festivals. Although non- punjabi’s don’t take initiative to celebrate Lohri but they too celebrate this festival with their punjabi friends.

Some people even send Lohri invitation cards to invite their friends & relatives. Lohri wishes, Lohri sms & Lohri wallpapers are available at various sites. [smartads]

Lohri Festival is linked with harvesting crop season, people in villages put some small amount of their crops into the Lohri fire to offer it as an offering to Fire GOD (Agni Devta) & this act symbolizes that it will bring in prosperity among people. People also sing Lohri Song “Dulha Bhatti vala”, when they put mungfli, revadi, popcorn etc. into the fire which is considered as holy fire. Even Punjabi’s consider it to be their rites (reet) that they celebrate 1st Lohri after marriage with pomp & show, & Lohri is celebrated in grand manner whenever somebody’s child esp. boy child comes into the world (which is considered as that child’s 1st lohri celebration).

In some other states, although this crop harvesting festival is celebrated with different manners with different rites & also with different names but Pongal, Makar Sakranti & Lohri are actually related festivals; its significance is similar as it spread the meaning of brotherhood & bonding amongst all.
