Shamshad Begum and Sisters Parkash Kaur & Surinder Kaur (there are really 5 of them. Three others Manjit Kaur,Mohinder Kaur, & Narinder Kaur) are' theth' Punjabi singers. Their Punjabi songs are just 'lajawab'. Another Punjabi singer from the 1950's who has been ignored for too long is Jagjit Kaur (Mrs. Khayyam).While her Hindi/Urdu songs are available in fair to good quality her Punjabi songs are quite another story. 'We pind dia lambardara' and 'Shawa tamasha wangan da' are available but their audio quality is only poor to fair.But Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle have sung many a Punjabi song and in most of their songs their Punjabi diction is not all that bad.
