Hamara Forums _ Malayalam _ Violinist Bala Bhaskar.....

Posted by: gkshyam Apr 30 2005, 11:05 AM

bye.gif Hey all you forum guys......Esp'lly the Mallu ppl......I need some help on this one....About 2 years back.....There was this programme aired on Asianet Channel.....called "SOORYA FESTIVAL"....based on a cultural fest of the same name organised in Kerala. When I heard the title track of that programme on Asianet.......it really swept me off my feet......Loved that beautiful violin track.....The style was very much like Dr.L.Subramaniam's....And when I checked the credits....the name was "BALA BHASKAR". Since then, I became his fan.....Used to see that programme on TV..just for the title music......

Since then, I have been trying my best to get more details on this artiste.....and trying to get my hands on his music.....but all in vain..... cry.gif ....All I got to read was one or two articles on the net....that 'barely mentioned his name'.....

Recently....he also performed live fusion music...at the recently held Asianet Cine Awards function at Kerala.....(Again, I was so unlucky.....just got to see a '10-sec clip of his' that they showed during the break.....After which I had to leave....had to go out urgently....So missed his music YET AGAIN!!!! cry.gif ) And later I came to know from the ppl who had watched the show.....that his was the creme-de-la-creme portion of the show..... bow.gif ....

If any one of you.......could throw more light on this composer-artiste.....and help me with some tracks of his.....I would be grateful.....(Maybe HITS and UNNI could help a bit more on this??? poseur.gif )

Count me out. I don't get to see ASIANET and I'm not familiar with the artiste. But now I shall look out for his recordings. Hope Hits can throw some light or Priya can get hold of recordings since she is in Kerala.

Shyamji, I will look out for the recordings next time I visit the music stores here.
U could try contacting the owner of this site--a gentleman based in Canada. He is a collector--I found him very helpful when I wanted some rare Malayalam songs. Dunno if he stocks intrumentals but no harm querying. There is a contact button on the site.

Check out the links on this link for some of his songs -
http://www.raaga.com/channels/malayalam/music/Bala_Bhaskar.html

Also try reaching out to Anchan as suggested by Priya. Have you checked out www.vismayam.net yet?

UNNI: Thanks For That....And Keep the search going!!!! wink2.gif

PRIYA: That was really nice of you to help me with that link. Will try contacting him on this. smile1.gif

HITS: Well, Checked on those links. It has all film songs by Bala Bhaskar......Now, I'm not too sure whether its the same person. I'm not too sure whether the BalaBhaskar I'm referring to, has started to compose in movies. But it could well be the same guy. One more thing. One of the Movie names (KUDUMBAM) on that link (Raaga.com) you gave me, shows the year as 1967. Now The guy I'm referring to, is a Very young guy, in his late 20's or very early 30's. Therefore I don't think He could have composed for that film. poseur.gif

But Anyways, it was really nice of you to search out and provide me with those links. Thanks Again. And keep the search going. (BTW, I have visited Vismayam.net before wink2.gif)

Hoping to hear from all of you pretty soon!!! bye.gif

That's quite possible. So we may be referring to different people. The guy I am talking about is a film composer.

Balabhaskar is a talented young musician. I heard his music first when I bought an album by the band Confusion. The songs were really to my liking. There is one where he impresses you with his prowess on the violin.
Later on I saw him play violin at a function, DISHAA organised by the Computer Science students of the SCT College of Engineering in Trivandrum. This was shown on ACV channel a few times.
Recently I saw him on one of the Malayalam channels, some programme called Music Cafe or some such thing where he was seen interacting with young music lovers. There, he talked about his music direction for films and the songs sung by Chithra and others for him. He loves to play the violin, said he....no wonder, He does play it so well!!!

Well, I really forgot about this thread that I had started long back tongue.gif doh.gif About 2-3 months back, Asianet telecasted a repeat of the Asianet Cine Awards 2005, for the umpteenth time.. tongue.gif And this time, I sat through the whole programme, and went on to record BALABHASKAR's performance using my cellfone...... I have two clips of his performances on my mobile...... not too clear...... since they were taken by focussing the cam on the TV screen... tongue.gif but quite decent enough.....

But, I'm yet to purchase a USB cord, to transfer the clips onto my hard disk. sad1.gif I dunno of any other way to get them out of the cellfone tongue.gif If anyone knows some way out, let me know..... or else, once I get hold of a cord, will download the clips and mail them to you. smile1.gif

Hi GK & the rest ,

I recorded the Asianet awards 2005 & loved the ballet bhrathanaiyam dance by Shobana & team which was specially composed by balabhaskar ...unfortunetely I was looking up to play this Onam & could not find the video...

I stumbled upon this link & thought I could re ignite this forum ...
Can anyone send me the video to copy in VCD format or the song ...it is not available online.

Cheers,
Ani, UK biggrin.gif
