(Shailendra) Raj Hath (1956)
Here is another film from the producer, director, and actor Sohrab Modi who was famous for making historic epics. This time though the story was lean and the narration of the events in the film were a bit less cohesive. In the end the movie leaves unsatisfied and much to be desired. There are plenty of songs sprinkled through out the film. Yet, the music composed by usually reliable Shankar & Jaikishan, except for a couple of songs, was less than inspiring. The exceptions are the two songs, a duet "Ye Vaada" and Rafi Saab's magnificent solo, "Aaye Bahaar". I am uploading these and other songs from this film in two back-to-back posts. Here is the first set... Attached image(s) |

(Shakeel) Wanted (1961)
This is the fourth film in two years Shakeel Saab worked with the music director Ravi. It started with the blockbuster "Chaudhvin ka Chand (1961)", followed by the hit "Ghunghat (1961)", "Gharana (1961)" another hit, and this film. Almost all songs from these films were very popular. Here are the songs from this film... Attached image(s) |

(Anand Bakshi) Jab Jab Phool Khile (1965) - Post 1 (Songs)
This hit musical borrows the main story idea heavily from George Bernard Shaw’s play “Pygmalion” with gender roles of the main characters reversed. This play was made into the hit musical “My Fair Lady” in 1964. Thanks to the great music and catchy songs “Jab Jab Phool Khile” hit the bull’s eye. It was later remade as “Raja Hindustani” in 1996 which was also a huge hit. Interestingly, Laxmikant & Pyarelal continue to be the assistant music directors to Kalyanji & Anandji even though by this time they had bagged a Filmfare Award and several hit musicals as the full-fledged music directors under their credit. I am uploading all songs and several instrumentals of this film in three back-to-back posts. Here is the first set… Attached image(s) |

(Javed Akhtar) Diljale (1996)
This hit film owed much of its success to some beautiful songs written by Javed Akhtar Saab for which Anu Malik composed fine tunes. I am uploading these songs in two back-to-back posts. Here is the first set... Attached image(s) |

(Majrooh) Kabhi Andhera Kabhi Ujala (1958)
Nutan and Kishoreda appeared together in three films in 1958. These were “Chandan”, “Dilli ka Thug”, and “Kabhi Andhera Kabhi Ujala”. All these films had one common trait. They all had good songs. Of these three movies only “Thug” was a modest hit. But “Chandan” and “Kabhi” had another thing common besides their leading pair. They were based on a story that was already made in Tamil and Telugu as films. I am not sure whether the leading pair was aware of this or not. Yet they went ahead and starred in the two separate Hindi versions of these films. Both movies were finished just about the same time and were scheduled for release in the same month. But just before this the producers of “Chandan” went to court to stop the release of “Kabhi” claiming that they had the rights to the story and “Kabhi” should never be released. The “Chandan” producers had a partial victory in the court. They did not get what they wanted but were successful in forcing a postponement of the release of “Kabhi” to a later date. “Chandan” was released earlier in the year whereas “Kabhi” was released later. Neither of them did well at the box office. OP was at the helm of music for “Kabhi”. Not surprisingly songs of Asha dominate. But it was Kishoreda’s zany song “Surma Mera Niraala” that was a runaway hit. The other popular songs were the duet by Asha and Mannada, and Asha’s solos “Ajab” and “Bhagwaan”. I am uploading these and other songs from this film below. It appears that I am missing a song shown in red italics in the table below. This may be the second part of the title song “Ajab”. If anyone of you has this song, please kindly share it with rest of us. Thank you. Here are the songs from this fine album… This post has been edited by swarapriya: Feb 3 2014, 11:30 AM Attached image(s) |

(Rajinder Krishan) Azaad (1955)
This film was made earlier in Tamil and Telugu. In both languages it was a huge hit. The Hindi version also was one of the biggest hits of 50’s. It has a patchy story and very dated by today’s standards. But during these early years anything with Dilip Saab generally was a winner. For his portrayal Dilipji won the Best Actor Filmfare Award. The songs helped the film immensely. All songs were chartbusters with “Aplam Chaplam” topping the charts. Interestingly Naushadji was originally offered to compose its music. The producers wanted all songs composed within a month. This demand teed off Naushadji who did not like to work under such time constraints. He rejected the offer. Then Ramchandra was approached. Chitalkar Saab delivered the songs in record time. I am uploading songs from this movie in two back-to-back posts. Here is the first set… Attached image(s) |
