Got this film languishing in my collection for long.. Should watch it soon. This is one fine film..another gem from the duo.. I am afraid, I am going to compare the three versions...raunchier and maybe more cynical... this one is my favorite. The Front Page... Madhavi..that is right. Front page is a taut film with almost the entire movie happening in a small room...Enjoyed it thoroughly.
Here is one classic novel turned movie..marking the debut of an icon ! After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

His Girl Friday was a brilliant and groundbreaking film in terms of comedy, dialogue delivery and direction. And Grant was brilliant. Kind Regards Faraaj Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. - Victor Hugo There is only one better thing than music - live music. - Jacek Bukowski I hate music, especially when it's played. - Jimmy Durante No good opera plot can be sensible, for people do not sing when they are feeling sensible. - W. His Girl Friday was a brilliant and groundbreaking film in terms of comedy, dialogue delivery and direction. And Grant was brilliant. I was waiting for somebody to disagree with me... I know Rosalind's role was inspired, and the dialogues make you huff n puff, and Grant is dazzling... so is the movie...which is precisely why I prefer the less frenetic pace of this one...after that incredible re"definitive" pairing... Wilder goes back to the original, with bulkier, aging actors and makes it edgier and darker and it is still a comedy. I do agree with you about His Girl Friday being far more path-breaking than Wilder's version but if you view the two films chronologically, it to me seems a relevant recalibration of the satire. Yes... a gentler comedy... I find it very appealing...Garbo does not strike a false note... a tall order with that tag line weighing you down... "This isn't right, this isn't even wrong." Wolfgang Pauli (1900-1958) "There are no facts, only interpretations." Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) |

Here is one brilliant film..a shoe string made for tv film but steals you with brilliant performances all round..almost a monologue. After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

The clues make it pretty obvious - Wit (2001). This is a highly regarded made for TV film, which is not surprising given that the director was Mike Nichols - director of acclaimed classics like The Graduate and Heartburn... Talking of Cary Grant,
Identify his movie which had the tagline, YOU CAN EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED WHEN THEY PLAY. Best Regards
