(Amitabh) Mard (1985)
This is another one of those popular movies made by Manmohan Desai. Full of crowd pleasing "masala". Lots of big name actors. A hodgepodge of a story based on a patriotic theme. And Amitabh still had that appeal with the filmgoers that could attract them to the cinema houses. This and several good songs made this movie a fun one to watch even though Amitabh was playing opposite Amrita Singh who is half his age, may be less. There is a mirror sequence between Amitabh and Prem Chopra in this movie that also appeared between Dilipji and Jeevan in "Kohinoor" in 1960. Both were lifts from the famous Marx Brothers' movie "Duck Soup" that was made in 1933. Grouch and his brother Harpo enacted that scene in the English film. Many years later, in 1955, Harpo reenacted the same with the comedienne Lucille Ball on her popular TV show bringing down the house with laughter. Manmohan Desai, who was ardent fan of our great singer Mohd. Rafi Saab, dedicated this film in his memory.
