After listening to the Jaddan Bai song, I was wondering whether it could be from an early movie and checked Vol I of HFGK when I noted the similarity in the opening verse of the song listed under Dukhtar-e-Hind. As per HFGK, the song in the movie is picturised on the male character, Master Nissar. So it must be a male rendition. Believe it or not, the correct name is Abla which means.. dubli patli khoob-soorat aurat. A movie by this [Abla] name was also made and released in Lahore in 1930. Its cast included Sunita Devi. It was a silent movie. |
