Mahesh bhai, Thanks for the absolute beauties from 'Sunehre Din'

I would add some corrections to the tags:
Thandi thandi hawa... sung by Shamshad
Umangon ke din... sung by Shamshad, Sulochana Kadam & Geeta
Lo ji sun lo... sung by Surinder & Mukesh as per the radio version, but only once the female announcer was given as 'Shamshad' in Radio Ceylon. If you listen very closely this also appears to be correct. Unfortunately the female part doesnot feature in single. Any comments on this?

Dear Respected members

Meri tarah kaafi log honge jo Surnider kaur ji baare mein kam jaante honge. I would love to know ur views on these uploaded songs.

Since this a Thread as a tribute to Surinder ji so lets not make another point to dload songs without any comments on her/or songs. IMO Agar normal thread hota to thanks ki bhi jaroort na hoti.

My pointer is towrds dloaders only who havnt made any comment anywhere(not to uploader etc)

Thoda ajeeb lagta jab koi gaana dload karne ko tayar hai but comment karne ko tayar nehi hai specially for a singer deid just two days ago.

Saw this at time of Naushd saab and here again repeated. at that time didnt dared to say but this time iam really upset.
least u can write is good song , or bad song., I liked it. was folkish etc. atleast formality hi poori kar do.

Even i will be dloading these songs.......but shayad kuch kuch na likh dunga.

Aisa na ho ki songs ke liye ab collectors aisi news ka wait karne lag pade.

sorry if it hurts some one..

Dear Mahesh and Dharamvirji

Many thanks for uploading some of the most beautiful songs of late Forties sung by the late Surinder Kaur. She was another glorious example of how in that period there were hugely talented artistes, be them singers, music directors or lyricists who embellished the film music with the finest melodies that will ever be created.

Speaking of Surinder Kaur in particular, her singing was resplendent with the earthy Punjabi folk style, sondhi sondhi sarson ki khushboo, as they say. Most of her songs reflected that style, none more so than "Morey Nain Banwre" from Sabak where after - Hum Dukh Kisey Sunayen - she wails O---------. I can't recall a "Sada", a "Pukar" with more pathos than Surinder Kaur's in this particular song.

Another song with similar effect is "Thhandi Thhandi Hawa Jo Aaye" from Sunehere Din, particularly when she poignantly repeats throughout the song "Toh Main Kya Karoon Bata De Jaane Waale". And who can forget her pleading with the witness above in the sky, Chanda Re Main Teri Gavaahi Lene Aayi. Contrast them the mischievious "Itne Door Hain Huzoor and Keh Do Humein Na Beqarar karen; and you have a singer with a wide range of emotions.

Such a pity therefore that this talented artiste was not given sufficient assignments to fully realise her potential. And it was pathetic to read in the article in Tribune that her own State Government neglected her and it was the Haryana Government who recommended her name for the Padmashri award which she was finally awarded last year.

May her soul rest in peace.

Very well said Sonu...

I'm a relatively new member so still fighting it out to get some rare songs before they're removed...

But, I would say this too - dont just download, please post and move the thread along so that we can, in our own way, pay our tributes to a great singer...

Regarding Surinderji...
I haven't heard a lot of her Punjabi folk stuff so could only post about Shaheed. The good thing here on HF is that there are so many knowledgeable people here that they can correct you if your information is wrong (and thanks to those who did correct me on Shaheed being Surinder ji's first movie). Posts by Mahesh ji, Urzung Sahib, Bobby ji, Dharam ji, Ummer bhai (and so many others) give me background information on a movie/song that I could never have known otherwise.

thanks!

P.S. I've only mentioned 4-5 names but I do include the entire HF family. God bless you all...

Latthe Thi Chaadar

This version is differnt from commonly available song

Vir Ji.

I think these version of Lathe Di Chadar and Sooi Ve are
the original renditions. The other ones came much later.
Both have mostly different words and beautiful renditions.

urzung khan

The version of Sui Ve Sui commonly available is a corus

I have heard her solo and duet with Prakash K but not the
corus.

Kaneez-49

Umeedon par udasi

Karvan Pictures Lahore's incomplete movie Tehzeeb was taken
to Bombay at the time of partition and completed there with
some changes in cast. Hansraj Behl did the remaining music. Some
of the songs had already been recorded by Master Ghulam Haider.
The movie was released as Kaneez.
umeedon par udaasi is a masterpiece.
