Here is an excerpt from the introduction of the album

"Lata and Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar's muscial association goes back 45 years. In this period of intense creativity, these supremely talented siblings have produced some all time great albums, ranging from Chapters from the Bhagwad Gita, choice verses from Maharashtra's greatest philosopher-poet Sant Dnyaneshwar, selected Ghazals of the legendar Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib, and hand picked bhajans of Sant Meerabai - cconsidered to date, as the most outstanding representation and interpretation of this princess-turned-ascetic. One cannot overlook the rich legacy of path-breaking Marathi songs ranging from freedom-fighter Savarkar to avant - garde poets that have enriched the repertoire of modern music. And then, ofcourse, are the many film song hits, culminating with the National Award Winning Lekin.

Today, a decade later, this magical team of Lata-Hridaynath have come up with Meera Soor Kabira.

From the title one conjures up in one's mind devotional songs from the misty medieval past of Indian History. Surprisingly devotion is expressed through simple "geet", folksy songs, Sufiana qawwali, love poems and dance numbers with a 'kathak" aroma. Contemporary, communicable and relevant... a touch of the classic, with the feel and treatment of today.

Foresight, vision, eternal relevance was the unique quality of these timeless poets like Meera, Soor, Kabeer. They were beyond ritualistic religion and into the realm of universal love.

It seems equally timeless and eternal when legends like Lata Mangeshkar and Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar create a modern and definitive song-cycle of the classic and the sublime.
