I voted for Others...
I would like Ayesha Takia to play the role of Geeta Ji. I know that most of Ayesha's films were flimsy...but those of you who have seen" Dor" will understand me. She acted out a mourning role with such a rare aplomb and grace, i was amazed at her abilities... Since Geeta Ji's life is riddled with pain and sorrows, i thought she would make a fine portrayal of the role. Just my two pence.. After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

I am reasonably certain that if this film gets made, it will primarily focus on the Guru Dutt-Waheeda angle, with a miniscule part for Geeta Dutt's character. In that case it doesn't really matter who plays the part. And Katrina for Waheeda??? Has Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra gone bonkers? I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be a rumour based on the fact that Amir & katrina posed in the Kagaz Ke Phool pose for a film magazine.
I think Anurag Kashyap is also scripting a Guru Dutt biopic. I think his script would do complete justice to the entire life of Guru Dutt, including Geeta Dutt. In that film, I would love to see Tabu play Geeta Dutt's part. This post has been edited by Aditya Pant: Jul 28 2009, 08:34 PM My Blog - http://urgetofly.blogspirit.com

my choice-juhi chawla as geeta dutt and shreya ghoshal as the voice.tabbu also would be a good option regards, mahesh Even I was thinking of Juhi Chawla as one of the options for the pole. Then I thought would it be a right choice?? Juhi and Tabu would definitely do justice to the complex role (if the director makes it a meaningful character). I cant imagine Katrina in the role of Waheeda! But Vidya Balan for the role of Geeta Dutt - yes. I cant think who can fit the role of Waheeda ji - maybe Tabu?

Bimal Roy's films were never big box office successes, but (to state the obvious) was a great director - arguably the best among the Hindi film directors. The time is not right to make a film on Guru Dutt, as some of the protagonists are still around and I wish them a very long life. Regards Sukesh |

Has there been a successful remake of old classic made recently.
So are they going to use electronic music and manipulated voice tracks. Not even AR Rahman with live musicians with real instruments could do justice. picturize the songs in Switzerland. have white dancing girls. Guru Dutt's bio is like Devdas. I thought India was no longer depressed to care for those kinds of movies. Isn't somebody else colorizing these movies as well. |

One more film being made on the lives of Guru Dutt and Geeta ji:
Source : http://www.washingtonbanglaradio.com/conte...shek-chatterjee HARIYE JAY (2010) Bengali Movie by Joy Mukherjee Exlcusive First Look | Abhishek Chatterjee, Gargi Roy Chowdhury, Nivedita Guru Dutt (1925-1964), often credited for architecting the golden era of Bollywood Hindi cinema, is reported to have attempted suicide three times. A resident of Bhawanipur in Calcutta for some years, Guru Dutt spoke fluent Bangla and finished schooling in Calcutta. He would continue to retain Bengali cultural influences all his life. Guru Dutt married Geeta Roy Dutt in 1953, and it is said the marriage was not a very happy one. Guru Dutt and actress Wahida Rahman had a romantic relationship outside Guru Dutt's marriage. His bebutmovie “HARIYE JAY” is also based on a novel “Sundar” by Dulendra Bhowmik. Abhishek Chatterjee is playing the role of Guru Dutt and Gargi Roy Chowdhury is playing Geeta Dutt. Perhaps the most difficult character of Waheeda Rahman goes to Nivedita, newcomer actress.Themovie is produced by Channel Eight and expected to release in March 2010. Please visit www.geetadutt.com

Who would play O.P.Nayyar and Mohammed Rafi?
OPN could have been played by Amrish Puri! But, cannot think of anyone for Rafi Saab!! Venkat PS. And Asha Bhosle? O.P.Nayyar and Asha have inflicted their own share of torment on Geeta Ji, didn't they? This post has been edited by venkat: Jan 23 2010, 05:46 PM I have changed many views in life since my childhood, but not my view of Rafi Saab as the God-sent Gandharva who visited this Earth briefly to spread ultimate ecstasy among genuine music-lovers!

Venkat ji
Thanks for your comments and valuable inputs. Truly speaking, there are many personalities who impacted the life of Geeta ji in various ways. Some of the names which come to my mind are: S D Burman - Discovering in 1947 and then forgetting by late fifties Chitragupt - A composer who trusted her with over 100 songs Mohd Rafi - A singer and human being par excellence with whom she sang from 1946 till early seventies..almost 10% of her songs... O P Nayyar - A genius composer who owed his career to Geeta ji and still dumped her later Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle - Affected the life and career of Geeta ji in various ways, no need to elaborare. Samajhdaar ko ishaara hi kaafi hai Hemant Kumar - A composer who consistently gave meaningful and quality songs to Geeta ji in Hindi and Bengali Avinash Vyas - Stalwart composer who entrusted her with over 100 songs in Hindi and Gujrati films Bulo C Rani - The magician composer who was instrumental in Geeta ji's early years.. Meena Kapoor - A close friend Talat Mahmood - Great singer and a friend Kanu Roy - Composer who gave her new life with songs of Anubhav..too bad it came too late... More to be added later.. True, all the names you mentioned had a role to play in her life!
But, in terms of strong association with Geeta Dutt's name in the public mind, SDB, OPN and Rafi rank the highest! And probably in whatever commercial success Geeta Dutt had, too! Of course, I mentioned Asha (not even Lata) because Asha Bhosle's role in Geeta's life had come at an already difficult time that Geeta was undergoing and had further compounded Geeta's personal problems such as the ones with Guru Dutt!! Here, I would have loved to quote what OPN had said in some interviews on Vividhbharati. But, I would not, as those comments by OPN, though factual, do not show some celebrities in good light!! For Geetaduttji's role, my all time selection is Rekha, no one can bring out pain & frustration better than her.
At present, Gurudutt's intelectual & seriousness look can be found in Gulzar. Makeup man from hollywood can materialise it. USR Dil Shaad Tha Ke Phool Khilenge Bahaar Mein
