A few days back I visited a friend who had just returned from Hajj. During our conversation he mentioned Masjid-al-Aqsa and how it would've been great if he could've also visited Jerusalem as well. Out of interest I asked him to describe the Masjid-al-Aqsa. The first thing he mentioned was the gold dome by when it became obvious that he was not describing Masjid-al-Aqsa, but Masjid Qubbat-as-Sakhra, more commonly known as the Dome of the Rock. After a heated debate and with the assistance of the internet I was able to show him how he had been mistaken.
After visiting my Hajji friend I called a few other close friends to see if they had fallen to the same confusion. To my surprise many had, including some of the more religious ones. I'm not sure how many on this forum are aware of this but I thought it necessary to point this out. I've posted pictures of both the mosques so you can see for yourselves which is which. 1) Masjid-al-Aqsa 2) Masjid Qubbat-as-Sakhra Attached image(s) "To be in a minority of one does not necessarily render one insane"

Masjid-al-Aqsa is very important, as it is sited on the first Qibla - the direction muslims face during prayer. Also it is the third major mosque for muslims, after Masjid-al-Haraam (Makkah) and Masjid-al-Nabavi (Madina).
This site explains a bit more: http://www.bismikaallahuma.org/History/Al-...aqsa-sakhra.htm This site shows the distance between the two: http://www.almaha.ws/aqsa-mp.jpg "To be in a minority of one does not necessarily render one insane"

DEAR FREINDS,
LETS SEE HOW MUCH AJAR(SAWAB) WE GET IN PRAYING IN MAKKAH -MADINA AND OTHER HOLY PLACES, 1) Jabir reports that the Messenger of Allah said: "Prayer in the inviolable mosque [in Makkah] is like 100,000 prayers [elsewhere]. And prayers in my mosque [in Medinah] is like one thousand prayers [elsewhere]. And a prayer in Bait al-Maqdis [in Jerusalem] is like five hundred prayers [elsewhere]. This is related by alBaihaqi, and as-Sayuti says it is hasan. www.freewebs.com/hassan_mi

Whilst on holiday in Tunisia a few years back, I had the opportunity to visit Kairouan in Tunisia, a beautiful city. The guide pointed out the Great Mosque being the fourth holiest in Islam which I did not know at that time. You can read more about it here… http://travelsnapz.tripod.com/tunisiakairo...squephotos.html http://www.sacredsites.com/africa/tunisia/kairouan.html http://www.tourismtunisia.com/togo/kairouan/kairouan.html |
