The traveling nature of my job allows me plenty of idle time, most of which I spend on my iPod. While first part of the last travel was dedicated to Salman-Govinda's Partner, I thought of paying tribute to my favorite all time singer - the one and only one - Kishore Kumar in the second part. Even before you start thinking of this one as a usual Top 10 list, let me tell you that it's not going to be any run-of-the-mill Top 10 songs of Kishore Kumar. That he has sung numerous super-hit songs for Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Shashi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, Rishi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and the likes besides himself is a well known fact, what I am going to do i s list some of his golden numbers for the lesser known stars. Sounds interesting, huh? Read on... and believe me it was one hell of a task to list only 20 even after so many restraints. That speaks volumes of the Genius that Kishore Kumar was! Initially I was thinking of including songs of Randhir Kapoor, Rakesh Roshan, Amol Palekar too but then there were too many of them and therefore I had to exclude them. Maybe a different post on them would do more justice. It was a pleasure refreshing the evergreen numbers. I never thought I would have to exclude their songs from this list So, here you go. Note: for many of these songs I had no clue, whatsoever, that who the actor was. Keeping in sync with the theme of the post, I am ordering the songs by actors (descending popularity). Dil Aisa Kisi Ne Mera Toda - Amanush - Uttam Kumar Uttam Kumar is a very big name in Bengali movie industry but when it comes to Hindi movies, I guess he did not get the stardom he deserved. Amanush is a 1975 film produced and directed by Shakti Samanta. The film stars Sharmila Tagore, Uttam Kumar, Utpal Dutt and Asit Sen. Kishore Kumar won the Filmfare Best Male Playback Singer Award for this song and Indeevar won for the Best Lyricist. .. Besides Amanush, Kishore Kumar also sang for Uttam Kumar in some other hit numbers in Anand Ashram (1977) and Chhoti Si Mulaqat (1967). Raat Kali Ek Khwab Mein Aayee - Buddha Mil Gaya - Naveen Nischol Buddha Mil Gaya had R D Burman scoring the timeless Kishore solo 'Raat Kali Ek Khwab Mein Aayee' along with 'Bhali Bhali Si Ek Soorat'. Remember Naveen Nischol? He was almost the next superstar after Rajesh Khanna, before a certain angry young man changed the trend and suddenly romantic heroes became things of past. Aye Khuda Har Faisla Tera Mujhe Manzoor Hai - Abdullah - Sanjay Khan Abdullah (1980) was more famous for some other reasons. Did I say Zeenat Aman? Ok, if you got a chance to see something else in the movie, you would note this beautiful track on Sanjay Khan. R D Burman and Anand Bakshi gave some super hit songs in this movie which also starred Raj Kapoor in a pivotal role. Phir Wohi Raat Hai - Ghar - Vinod Mehra This R D Burman song from Ghar (1978) is pure magical in terms of beauty of lyrics, delicacy of composition and sweetness of rendering. Besides this, Vinod Mehra also got to lip sync some other great numbers of Kishore Kumar - most notably "Geet Gata Hun Main Gungunata Hun Main..." from Lal Patthar. Tum Bin Jaaoon Kahan - Pyar Ka Mausam - Bharat Bhushan Nasir Hussain's movies are known to have great music by R D Burman. And you would be surprised to find this song here as the more popular version of this track was picturized on Shashi Kapoor. But remember that was sung by Mohd Rafi. Majrooh Sultanpuri wrote the lyrics of this song, which was also picturized on Bharat Bhushan, playing Shashi Kapoor's father in the movie. You got it - that version was sung by Kishore Kumar. Pyar Hi Jeene Ki Soorat Hai - Armaan - Raj Babbar Another great composition by Bappi Lahiri! Arman starred Raj Babbar, Ranjeeta and Shammi Kapoor. Although "Pyar Hi Jeene Ki Soorat Hai" is a hit number on its own, it somehow got overshadowed by Usha Uthup's "Rambha Ho Ho Ho Sambha Ho Ho".... Pyar Maanga Hai Tumhi Se - College Girl - Sachin Another Kishore Kumar gem. Bappi Lahiri started his career with really great tunes. Wish he continued like that. This 1978 movie starred Bhagwan, Bindiya Goswami, Paintal, Rita Bhaduri, Sachin, Shreeram Lagoo. So, my take is that Sachin would have sung it on screen. Haan Pehli Baar Ek Ladki Mera Haath Pakad Ke Boli Haan Re Haan - Aur Kaun - Sachin I had to write the complete first line so that you can recognize it. Trust me, if you have not heard it, you are missing something. Ramsay Brothers' "Aur Kaun" had Bappi Lahiri giving one of his best songs, which unfortunately went unnoticed. Again, I had to google hard to find details about this song. The Genius of Kishore Kumar can make even the dead sing. Teri Duniya Se Hoke Majboor Chala - Pavitra Papi - Parikshit Sahni Music and lyrics by Prem Dhawan, Pavitra Paapi (1969) starred father-son duo of Balraj Sahni and Parikshit Sahni along with Tanuja. I remember this song playing on Chitrahar almost every alternate Wednesday. Kishore Kumar proved once again that he needed no star. Husn Ki Wadiyon Mein Ishq Palta Rahega - Waaris - Raj Kiran The last movie of Smita Patil had Raj Kiran playing her husband, who gets killed for ancestral wealth. This is one haunting number, probably among one of the last sung by Kishore Kumar. Kuchh Log Mohabbat Kar Ke - Lava - Rajeev Kapoor Starring Raj Babbar, Dimple Kapadia & Rajeev Kapoor, Lava had music by R D Burman and lyrics by Anand Bakshi. This is yet another good soundtrack from the eighties that suffered due to the ill fate of the movie at the box-office. Ravinder Peepat's Lava had a tried and tested love triangle plot. Picturized on Rajeev Kapoor, "Kuchh Log Mohabbat Karke" is a well rendered track by Kishore Kumar that speaks of the pitfalls of love. Yeh Jeevan Hai Is Jeevan Ka - Piya Ka Ghar - Anil Dhawan Basu Chatterjee's Piya Ka Ghar had some great songs by Laxmikant Pyarelal and Anand Bakshi. I am not sure if this was picturized on its lead actor Anil Dhawan or not but I could not resist adding this song here. Perhaps this was a background score. The movie also starred Jaya Bhaduri. Samjhauta Ghamon Se Kar Lo - Samjhauta - Anil Dhawan Kalyanji-Anandji's surprise hit of 1973, Samjhauta starred Anil Dhawan and Shatrughan Sinha. This great number ranked #5 in the Annual Binaca Sangeet Mala that year ahead of many biggies. Roop Tera Aisa Darpan Mein Na Samaaye - Ek Baar Muskura Do - Deb Mukherjee O P Nayyar (music), Indeevar (lyrics) and Kishore Kumar gave Deb Mukhejee probably the only hit song of his career. Released in 1972, his brother Joy Mujherjee and Tanuja co-starred in Ek Baar Muskura Do. Dil Kya Kare Jab Kisi Se - Julie - Vikram Year was 1975 - the year of Sholay and Deewar. But who can ever forget songs of Julie - the surprise superhit. Vikram and Laxmi lit the screen on fire with Rajesh Roshan's "Bhool Gaya Sab Kuch" and "Dil Kya Kare Jab Kisi Se". Neele Neele Ambar Par - Kalakaar - Kunal Goswami One of my favorite Kishore da numbers, "Neele Neele Ambar Par" was picturized on Kunal Goswami, son of Manoj "Bharat" Kumar. Released in 1983, Kalakaar was one of the first Hindi movies of Sridevi. Music by Kalyanji-Anandji and written by Indeevar (or maybe Manoj Kumar himself), this was almost ruined by Nitin Bali in his remix. Tum Kitni Khoobsoorat Ho Yeh Mere Dil Se Puchho - Jangal Mein Mangal - Kiran Kumar Jangal Mein Mangal, 1972 comedy, starred Kiran Kumar (yes he started as a hero), Reena Roy and Pran. It had music by Shankar Jaikishan. Of the many good tracks, "Tum Kitni Khoobsoorat Ho Yeh Mere Dil Se Puchho" ranks amongst the best of Kishore Kumar. Har Koi Chahta Hai Ek Mutthi Aasman - Ek Mutthi Aasman - Vijay Arora Frankly speaking I do not know who sings this song on screen. My guess is Vijay Arora as I see him in the star cast in this 1973 movie by Virendra Singh. Madan Mohan created a gem of a number which changes its pace seamlessly midway through the track written by Indeevar. Chalte Chalte Mere Ye Geet - Chalte Chalte - Vishal Anand Vishal Anand, nephew of Dev Anand, starred with Simi Grewal in this movie full of super-hit songs. The title song is a timeless wonder. Bappi Lahiri and Amit Khanna (lyricist) combined together to make this 1976 chartbuster album. Dil Se Mile Dil Ho Gayee Mushkil - Dil Se Mile Dil - Bhisham Kohli Now you understand, why I had to omit the likes of Randhir Kapoor, Rakesh Roshan and Amol Palekar from this list!!! Dil Se Mile Dil (1978) starred Jaishree T, Mehmood, Om Shivpuri, Shyamlee besides Bhisham Kohli. And mind you, this was not one song wonder. It also had unforgettable "Yeh Naina Yeh Kaajal Ye Zulfein Ye Badal". Amit Khanna (lyrics) at his best!
