Jagjit Singh Ji was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital on September 23 after he suffered brain haemorrhage in suburban Bandra where a life-saving surgery was performed on him.
"Jagjit Singh passed away yesterday at 8.10 am after having a terrible haemorrhage," Dr Sudhir Nandgaonkar, hospital spokesperson. Today the ritual will be perfomed at chandanwadi – Girgaon (Mumbai). Our(HFM's) humble regards to the departed soul . “Legend never dies, always beats in their fan`s hearts. “ One of the most successful and loved artistes of his time, he has left behind a huge body of work in a career spanning five decades, including 80 albums. The voice behind the timeless ghazals was inspired by singers like KL Sehgal, Talat Mahmood, Abdul Karim Khan, Bade Ghulam Ali Khan & Amir Khan. Often called the 'Ghazal King' by his fans and peers, Jagjit was born on February 8, 1941 in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan, to Amar Singh Dhiman, a government employee, and Bachan Kaur. He had four sisters and two brothers and was called Jeet by his family. He was raised as a Sikh by religion. His birth name was Jagmohan but his Sikh father rechristened him as Jagjit following the advice of his guru. It was his father, who first recognised his son's talent. He sent young Jagjit to learn the nuances of music under a blind teacher, Pandit Chhaganlal Sharma. He later trained under Ustad Jamal Khan of Sainia gharana for six-years and gained knowledge in Khayal, Thumri and Dhrupad forms. USR Dil Shaad Tha Ke Phool Khilenge Bahaar Mein

Even though Jagjit Singh departs from us, his voice, ghazals and memories will remain forever. Alvida Jagjit Singhji, your voice is now in Heaven's heights and left your ghazals here on earth for us.

Jagjit Singh the undisputed "King of Gazals" or as Gulzar refered to him as Gazaljit Singh will always be with us thru his vast treasure of music he leaves behind for his fans. Just like we still adore other legends of HFM like Mukeshji. Rafi saab etc decades after they left us. Our hearts go out to Chitraji for her loss. First her young son, a daughter and now her beloved husband. May god rest his soul in peace and give her courage to bear the loss. Ramesh R a m e s h
