I posted a new topic because it is better all the technicalities of these different uploadings/file conversions are in one place.

My question:
Can someone once more walk me through converting songs on cassettes to digital? I promise this time I am listening carefully. Please be as detailed for a stupid guy like me!!?

Mahesh:

Hope this helps:

You need a suitable cable to connect from the tape player to the PC.

SOURCE: The end connected to the tape-player should have the type of pin as required for the particular tape-player. Usually a Walkman has a 3.5mm jack.

If you connect from the 'HEADPHONE' output of the tape-player, adjust your source?s volume control to mid position. If you connect from the LINE-OUT, the volume control has no effect, so leave it alone.

DESTINATION: The end to be connected to the PC's LINE-IN should have a 3.5mm stereo pin.

Once the two units are connected, use software e.g. MusicMatch JukeBox to record the sound on the PC as the cassette is played. You need to select "LINE IN" as the sound source, and not one of the other options, e.g. MIKE, CD PLAYER, AUX, etc.

A bit of experimentation with the editing features of MusicMatch will enable you to reduce tape-hiss, increase the volume, reduce pop/click, etc.
