Hi all..........Well, I was just looking through the different singers covered here. I found this one singer whose not many songs have been uploaed/discussed. Well, Usha Iyer (Usha Uthup) has created a name for herself over the past many years, in the Hindi Film Industry, with her Unique voice, and unique brand of songs, and unique style of singing. Most of her songs are a rage even today. Not only that, even today, whenever she makes a public appearance, she always steals the thunder......and always has people craving for more.......A very versatile singer, a colourful personality.
Not much has been discussed about her career and her personal life, and i would like to know more about her. Anyone having any info on this versatile lady, is welcome to share the same. Also waiting for an amazing collection of uploads...... My personal favorites: 1. Hari Om Hari 2. Hare Rama Hare Krishna (Title Track with Asha) 3. Koi Yahan Nache Nache (I have this one) Apart from these, there are hundreds of songs in various Indian languages (Both film and non-film) sung by her. So get started.............Keep it coming........ Love Music....... LOVE GK

Usha Uthup apart from being a wonderful singer is a fabulous person. Very down to earth and friendly. I have sent her fan mail several times from childhood onward and each time she personally replied --not at all aloof or with any airs--just very sweet and open and natural. Met her recently in a shop here and the image I had from her letters was strengthened.
While I have most of her English songs do not have too many Hindi ones. One that I am looking for is Hands up! a duet with Asha from Bandhan Kache Dhagon ka (pity out kacha dhaga wala does not have it ) I do have a whole lot of her remixes which I was privilged enough to receive from her on cd. |

Usha Uthup has such a great voice... It's so unorthodox in in comparison to other high-pitched singers who've always ruled the roost. It's sad that a talent like hers was neglected in the industry (although I don't know whether it was her choice to avoid HFM or whether she didn't get the offers). I haven't heard that many of her songs, but I enjoy each and every one that I've come across, notably the song(s) from Shaan, Shalimar, Disco Dancer, HRHK, and Wardat. I'd love to hear more tidbits about her career and life, if anyone has any.

I think I have seen somewhere on HF the Shalimar song "One Two Cha Cha Cha", though it's Khichdi (mixed) medium. Will upload it later if I can't find the link soon.

Will upload it later if I can't find the link soon. The song in 'Wardat' Tu Mujhe Jaan Se Bhi Pyaara He' was excellent. I have got the film version with Bappi. However, she sang it on stage solo, does anyone know if it was released in an album or anything. It was trully classy! |

Here's the English-Hindi mixed song from Shalimar (1978) by Usha Uthup under RDB's baton. Anyone know the lyricist?

I like her song in Bombay To Goa. She has sung it to fabulously. I was amazed to hear an Indian singer sing in English so beautifully.
I would love to hear her Gujarati song "maari mahisagar ni aare dhol vaage se"... she sung this one on 31st Dec some 12-15 yrs back. I dont remember which year. |

Can someone upload it? She became famous for her singing in English, perhaps the most successful in that genre in India. As far as I know, only later did she record in Indian languages.
