Rajan..Glad that you liked the song. AM Raja is a multifaceted genius. It is pertinent that his contemporaries are legends..inspite of which he carved a niche for himself in every language he did... Unfortunately he passed away in a train accident.. sad.gif
Here is one more absolutely moving song...it is the tamil version of " Sou baar janam lenge"........actually it has a telugu version too sung by PB Srinivas..ofcourse Rafi Sahab gave that song immortality. But it is a pleasure to listen to TMS...

Ooorayiram parvaile..
Vallavakku vallavan
TMS
mp3, 128 kbps, 3.51 min

SFji,

Vallavanukku Vallan was from the Modern Theatre stable at Salem, Tamil Nadu.
They use to make B-Grade pot boilers but use to have superb music.
For those who have not heard the Rafi version, the TMS version is claasic.
In fact, I consider it as one of TMS's alltime classics.
That is because TMS did not sing in Hindi.
Rafi's rendition gave it a pan-indian status, IMHO.
Thanks for reminding me of a classic.
BTW, which came first the Hindi song or the Tamil song, if you can enlighten me.
Thanks.
Suresh

and it was also made in telugu " Manase mandiram".. smile.gif
Here is one beautiful song of PB Srinivas..from the film Pava manippu..

SFji,
Another timeless classic.
Thanks.

Rajan, since you mentioned C S Jayaraman, here are two of my favorite songs by him.
Both are duets, one with P Susheela and the other with S Janaki (she only hums in this one).
Absolutely superb songs IMO.

Song: Kaaviyama nenjil oviyama
Film: Paavai viLakku (1960)
Singers: P Susheela, C S Jayaraman
Music: K V Mahadevan
Bitrate: 128 kbps
Duration: 5:50

Song: Anbaale theDiya en arivu selvam
Film: Deiva piravi (1960)
Singers: S Janaki, C S Jayaraman
Music: R Sudarsanam
Bitrate: 128 kbps
Duration: 3:28

SB,

Thanks for the Paavai Vilakku song. Both these songs are really excellent.

Regards,

Rajan

Sangeetbhaktji,

CSJ's voice may not appeal at first brush.
But it does grow on you.

In the Paavai Vilakku song, PS sounded extremely sweet.
Thanks for both the songs.

With best regards,
suresh

Suresh..i do think they did it simultaneously...all three. The inference might be the Hindi version being done after tamil and telugu...as the production house was based in Salem. did hear about Modern theatres..read in some book.. smile.gif
Every language has it's own nuance and rendition and expression. Hindi being the subtler..We can never compare any voice to another, as none were proficient in all languages..except PB Srinivas, an acknowledged Scholar.
I love TMS version..as i find the higher tones has a kind of vulnerability...with a slight break in voice..emotional to the core. Rafi is sublime...PBS's version was also very good...we are just mortals who are not qualified to pass remark on those Timeless, ageless...ethereal voices.. bow.gif

"Vallavanukku vallavan" was made in 1965 and music is by Veda. By
definition, that means that it is the copy. Some of the other songs in the film
are copies of Hindi songs as well.
The best song in the film is a L R Eswari solo which is loosely based on "Bali
hai" from the film "South Pacific". The song is PaLiginaaL oru maaLigai

"Sau baar janam leNge" is from "UstaadoN ke ustaad" which came out in
1963.

SB..that is very informative. telugu version..Monagallaku monagadu ...came in 1966 and the MD was Veda. which clinches that Hindi came first with Ravi giving the original wonderful compositions.. smile.gif
Cant recall the LR Eswari song off the cuff..

SFji,

Very well said.
We have no qualifications to pass judgements.
Each singer -TMS, Rafi & PBS, is a titan on his own credentials.
I also love the TMS version as much as I do the Rafi version.
I have not heard the PBS version though.

Thanks & Regards,
Suresh

SF,
Ji, is sheer habit & convention, due to having lived all my life in North India, though I am a tamilian. Your point noted.
I would like to hear the PBS version.
I am a great fan of PBS & he has sung many memorable songs in Tamil as well. I have met him, once, in Madras. A great scholar.
Can u you can post it here
