Ever wondered why the song credits are always assigned to "Chitalkar" and the music direction is assigned to "C.Ramchandra" when they are the same person?

Initially he went by the name of Chitalkar, at the time he was an aspiring singer. Therefore, in the Bombay film industry he was known by that name even when he became a Music Director. It is believed that he assumed the name "C. Ramchandra" when he started composing music for films made in Madras.
As the story goes, a Bombay film producer is said to have suggested to "Chitalkar" to take inspiration from this "C. Ramchandra" who was creating popular songs for films made in Madras!  Going be the pattern of Maharashtrian names, I guess his name would really have been Ramchandra Chitalkar. If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.
