Vivek, Tulsidas wrote all his work in awadhi. Surdas and Raskhan used Braj bhasha.Vidyapati used maithili.
there is a confusion about the origin of the Bhojpuri language, according to some folk tales bhojpuri was the language spoken during the rule of Raja Bhoj who ruled in the Bhojpur region of bihar but other tales says that Raja Bhoj was the ruler of Bhuj region in Rajasthan. Bhojpuri is a language which was derived from the Prakrit. Contrary to the belief, its not the language of Patna, Bhojpuri is spoken in the western and some of the northern part of Bihar and the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh, which includes Buxar (remember the battle of buxar fought here), Banaras, allahabad, even in Mauritius, bhojpuri is one of the main languages. ![]() You maybe shocked to know that Bhojpuri has many words in common with Marathi. you can even find some words that are common to English in meaning as well as pronunciation for eg. Near and here. as we move towards the east the language changes, gets influenced by the other languages. like in Banaras we found very rude form of Bhojpuri while in Allahabad it is mixed with Awadhi. What Ab speaks is a mixture of Bhojpuri and Awadhi ![]() Patna was known as Magadh, the language that was spoken there was known as Magadhi now Magahi, this one is a bit rude sounding... Awadhi was spoken in Lucknow, ayodhya, Faizabaad and the middle UP. Vivz's post is in Awadhi though with lots of mistakes ![]() Maithili is another language thats spoken in the northern region of Bihar and is the sweetest of any other language i have heard ![]() Bhagalpuri is yet another language that is confused with bhojpuri that is supposed to be very very rude it just feels like someone clubbed you ![]() And Bihari language encompasses all these languages just like one who doesnt know about the different languages spoken in south calls them madrasi language ![]() now does it solve the confusion or do you need exaples too??? ![]() ![]() "When beauty talks, nobody notices what grammar it uses"

ok lets take the sentence "tum kahaa jaa rahe ho."
in Bhojpuri- Tu kene jaa tara or tu kene jaat baata or tu kene jaat haua depending on the region the words changes. Maghdi- tu kahaa jaat ha Maithili- aahan ke kene jayiche Bhagalpuri- Ton kenaa jayi chon Awadhi- tum kahaa jayit hava Another sentence " jub wo bazaar jaa rahaa tha tub maine use dekha" Awadhi- uu jub bazaar jayit rahaa tub hum uka dekha rahe Bhojpuri- jub u bazaar jaat rahe tube hum okra ke dekle rahin maithili- uu jub haat gaylochiai tubbe hum oke dekhalchi Bhagalpuri- uu jub baazar jaate chon tubbe hum ooke dekhli chon im not that good in the language department so there might be a bit of mistake but i guess i got most of it right ![]() "When beauty talks, nobody notices what grammar it uses"

Wow.. Thanks Preety !
![]() ![]() I guess awadhi is whats most frequently been 'adapted' as a 'dehati' language in most hindi films, and so probably an outsider (as in me) equates all those languages to awadhi ![]() (jaise sab south indian languages 'ek-se' lagte hain ![]() What was the dialect heard in Ajay Devgan's 'Gangajal' ? Was really nice to know the linguistic / cultural variety that exists across UP and Bihar, true to their ancient rich heritage ![]() Was a surprise to know bhojpuri has its roots in Prakrit.... Did u know that Prakrit evolved as the "common man's" language ----- prajAnAm kritah iti prakritah, while Sanskrit was known more as language of the "saints" ---- santAnAm kritah iti sanskritah. Would be interested to know if Prakrit still survives in UP / Bihar at least in literary works ? Any info on how similar were the scripts, etc ? Any differences in the scripts of all the languages you mentioned ? Or all basically in Devnagiri ? |
