Ilayaraja's Tamil epic to be launched June 30

Rajnikant, Kamal Haasan and a host of film celebrities will join Information and Broadcasting Minister S. Jaipal Reddy at the launch of Ilayaraja's "Thiruvasagam", a Tamil epic based on western classical music, here Thursday.

Jaipal Reddy will be the chief guest at the launch the album by the noted composer and music director.

Carnatic musician Balamurali Krishna will receive the first copy of the album, Ilayaraja said here Tuesday.

Jayakumar, joint secretary in the culture ministry, will release the visual documentation of the making of "Thiruvasagam". Dakshinamurthy Swamigal, Ilayaraja's guru in Carnatic music, will receive the first copy of this.

MDMK general secretary Vaiko will present a literary appreciation of "Thiruvasagam".

Congress leader Peter Alphonse and film director Bharathiraaja will also be present at the event.

The special album was presented to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam June 17 and to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh June 18 in New Delhi.

A CD will also be released July 2at Dallas in the US in the presence of representatives of over 500 non-resident Tamil organisations.
