The picturization of this song ranks among the great classics of Hindi film sequences. The innovative direction of Guru Dutt, the brilliant visual composition with its play upon light and dark shot in black and white, the superb camera-work, the novel set with it's now-legendary stationary bullock-cart, the beam of light splashed across the screen as the lovers remain still as imagined images of their desires glide across --- and in the background, the voice of Geeta-ji in what I regard and respect as her most 'haunting' song -- even more evocative in my esteem than another of her timeless classics, "Kahin Door Se Aawaz De, Chaley Aao" from "Sahib, Biwi Aur Ghulam".

I could write reams about this song, its picturization --- with a plethora of superlatives. Instead, I'd rather you watch and listen.

To savour the full flavour of this clip, I'd suggest you watch it at night with the lights off, and imagine yourself in a cinema-hall of old. Fortunately I've a black background on my desktop screen which enhances the visuals.

thanks a ton for uploading the video of the greatest song of geeta dutt and one of the best songs of world cinema.the song is also unique that a large number of celebrities like amitabh bacchan,shabana azmi,rekha etc have again and again mentioned this song as their ultimate favourite.
recently amitabh on ''coffee with karan'' picked this song as the song which symbolised his life.
