Iqbal-bhai;
It is interesting how in those days that song was considered "cheap". Another song that comes to mind is the Lata/CR duet "Shaam Dhaley Khidki Taley". Both are very popular, decades later. Along with the times, supposed "moral values" and perceptions have changed. In the 50's and 60's they had a different perspective. By today's yardstick they were very conservative! Lata-ji reportedly refused to sing lines that she considered "vulgar" or suggestive. It has even been suggested that she was 'tricked' into singing "Mujhey Buddha Mil Gaya". There has been discussion in our forum if the word "nangi" was vulgar in a song sung by Rafi-sahab. Personally, I don't think it was, and gave the example of the same word used exquisitely in the beautiful Lata/Madan Mohan number 'Merey Ashkon Ka Gham Na Kar Ae Dil". Even something "suggestive" can be conveyed in a subtle, poetic manner. For example, Asha-ji singing "Jahaan Tak Mahek Hai Mere Gaysuon Ke Chaley Aayiyey". We could infact start a thread on the subject. In my opinion, the Mahendra Kapoor song "Aaj Ki Raat Nahin Shiqwey Shikayat Ke Liye" ranks among the most "sexy" songs in HFM with its eloquently suggestive lyrics, e.g. "Har Gunah Aaj Muqaddas Hai Farishton Ki Tareh, Kaanptey Haathon Ko Mil Jaaney Do Rishton Ki Tareh. Aaj Milney Mein Na Uljhan Hai Na Ruswaayi Hai...." Apni Zulfen Merey Shaaney Pe Bikhar Jaaney Do, Is Haseen Raat Ko Kuchh Aur Nikhar Jaaney Do. Subah Ne Aaj na Aaney Ki Qasam Khaayi Hai....". Others that come to mind are "Aur Kuchh Daer Thehar" and "Abhi Tau Raat Baaki Hai", both sung by Rafi-sahab. If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.
