Ghulam Ali - Badshah-E-Ghazal
Ghulam Ali was born into a musical family. His father was a sarangi player as well as a vocalist. Ali was trained by Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and his three brothers. Ghulam Ali started singing for Radio Lahore in 1960. He has been a prolific singer and is very popular aside from Pakistan, his native country, in India as well. He has a large following through out the ghazal loving world. Of late, Ghulam Ali is releasing only a few albums a year. He is concentrating on giving more live concerts traveling all around the world. The main instruments he uses for these concerts is a harmonium, that he usually plays, and an accompanying tabla. His use of other instruments is to complement the sounds of his music but he makes sure that it is his voice that is in control and not the instruments. He released over 200 albums and sang several thousands of ghazals. In the next few months, I will share of some of these albums with you. Here is "Aap Ki Pasand" ... An Evening with Ghulam Ali - Vol. 1 (1978)
Ghulam Ali Saab came up with several albums with the title, "An Evening with Ghulam Ali". I am aware of the following albums. It is quite possible that there may be more of these that I am not aware of. Here is the list I know ... In 1978 Ghulam Ali Saab came up with two volumes using this title. In 1979 one. In 1982 he released three volumes. In 1983 he released some more. He may have released in other years albums using the same title. I have some of these albums that I would like to share with you. As a starter we will start with this 1978 album, first volume. This has only six ghazals in it but some of them are of very long duration. I will upload these in two back-to-back posts. Here are the ghazals in this post ... Attached image(s) |
