The Three Reigining Queens
One was a beauty queen. Madhubala was her screen name. The other was a tragedy queen. She was known as Meena Kumari to the movie fans. The third one was a romantic queen. She was known as Nargis. All three more or less came into the movie field just about the same time. All of them started as child artistes. They shaped the industry with their charismatic personalities. They showed how to smile, how to bear pain, and how to fall in love. Their personal lives were marred with tragedies. They died very young. They set aside thier own problems to entertain us in their own inimitable way. They ruled the Hindi film world for nearly three decades, each in her own way. In the next few months we will take a look at the songs from their albums more closely. This post has been edited by swarapriya: Mar 28 2010, 10:26 PM Attached image(s) ![]() |

(Nargis) Talash-E-Haq (1935)
This was the first movie of Nargis who was introduced as a child star with the name Baby Rani. It was produced and directed by Nargis' own mother Jaddan Bai who also composed its music. Bai has the distinction of being the first ever female music director. In the same year Saraswati Devi also directed the music for "Jawani Ki Diwani" but Jaddan Bai's was the first to come out months beore the "Diwani" movie. Jaddan Bai was a versatile lady who was also a singer and actress. She used to sing daadraas and thumris over the radio and was quite popular. She was also a gramophone record artist. While performing in a show she was noticed by K.L. Saigal who encouraged her to act and sing in the movies. I am attaching a photograph of Jaddan Bai with this write up. She is standing next to Dilip Kumar where as Nargis is with Mehboob Khan. Unfortunately, I don't have a single song from this movie. If anyone of you have it, please kindly share.
