![]() btw, I liked Edward Fox in " Day of the Jackal"..he was as enigmatic as the character. Ofcourse, General Dyer in Gandhi..is more popular i guess. Madhavi that is brilliant..i never watched any of her films. Will watch for Babette's feast too.. ![]() Here is one more from me... ![]() This post has been edited by simplefable: May 24 2009, 02:59 PM After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

SF If you come to Australia, I can show The Duellists to you in an excellent print! And cook you a nice meal too ![]() To be honest, I didn't like Day of the Jackal because I felt it fell too far short of the book. There are some films and directors e.g. Lubitsch, that are widely admired but I just never warmed to them....but Day of the Jackal is considered a classic as obviously are Lubitsch films. I love Hollywood musicals, and of course Gene Kelly (this pic must be circa 45-47) was one of the greats with classics like Anchors Aweigh, An American in Paris and Singin in the Rain (Good mornin' was a classic song!). But I liked one of his few non-singing performances - Inherit the Wind. He had to rub elbows with double oscar winners Spencer Tracy and Frederic March in a court-room classic about the Scopes trial (aka monkey trial). Tracy and March played real life legendary lawyers Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryant, while Gene was an ultra-cynical journalist. Another really special film....there are so many!!!!!!!! Kind Regards Faraaj Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. - Victor Hugo There is only one better thing than music - live music. - Jacek Bukowski I hate music, especially when it's played. - Jimmy Durante No good opera plot can be sensible, for people do not sing when they are feeling sensible. - W. H. Auden |
