Posting interview which she gave after getting the award:-

One of Bollywood's oldest playback singers, who's delivered countless hits through the years has finally been honoured.

We're talking of the Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon singer Shamshad Begum and the award she's received is the Padma Bhushan.

According to the 90-years-old singer, "I am really grateful that I have got this award. It is by God's grace that I have received this honour at this age."

Whether it was the innocent teasing in Kahin Pe Nigahein in the 1956 film CID or the hilarious Kajra Mohabbat Wala in the 1968 movie Kismat, Shamshad begum's voice became inseperable from the heroines in the 50s.

It was Shamshad Begum's sharp voice that made maestros like OP Nayyar and Naushad Ali recognise her talent. Her distinctive voice kept her in the limelight despite other biggies like Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.

"When people work hard and sing there's a lot of competition. But I wasn't scared of competition," says Shamshad.

On being asked as to what the veteran artist think of modern-day music, Shamshad Begum says, "Youngsters today are singing very well. I enjoy listening to them."
