Anupama (1966)
This beautiful movie was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. He made so many fine movies but this should count as one of his top ones. The only way to describe this movie is to borrow its own title. Sharmila Tagore, stunningly beautiful in this movie, gave a smashing performance. From a father-fearing innocent woman to romantic awakening of a lover to rebellious spirited person, the whole gamit of spectrum of transformaton was superbly performed by Sharmilaji. Dharmendra gave one of his rare subdued performances. Not since Bimal Roy's "Bandini" that he displayed such a restrained performance. Too bad he did not act in more movies like this one. Instead he ended up as another he-man turned action hero. Then there is Hemantda's superb music. There are only five songs in this movie. But each one of them is a sparkler. Kaifi Azmi saab penned the beautiful lyrics. My personal favorites are Ashaji's "Bheegi Bheegi Faza", Lataji's "Kuchh Dil Ne Kaha", and Hemantda's touching solo "Ya Dil Ki Suno". Now for details of the songs and the songs themselves ... This post has been edited by swarapriya: Sep 16 2008, 10:44 AM Attached image(s) |
