Recently, I drove to South Dakota. This was my 3rd visit to this beautiful state. I went with my son to Rapid City, which is nestled in the Black Hills Area. It is named for the dark appearance given by the mountains' thick covering of pines.
The 1st photo is Mount Rushmore National Memorial in the Black Hills. The sculptor, Gutzon Borglum chose this mountain for its granite face and with a team of 400 people, carved the faces of 4 presidents( George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln) with perfection. Each face is 60 feet high. This post has been edited by lakshmi: Aug 25 2008, 06:08 AM Attached image(s) ![]() |

You are right Exon. This waterfalls project is by 41 year Danish artist, Olafur Eliasson. These will be displayed through October . There is another interestin thing going on in New York City. This year, the Yankee baseball team is hosting the 79th all star gameat Bronx stadium. They are putting mini statues of liberty at various places in New York City. I have spotted 5 out of 48 so far. Here are the photos of 2. New York Mets staue of liberty on 6th avenue Attached image(s) ![]() |
