movie mehbooba(1976) md r.d.burman solos kishore kumar lata 5:26/320 7:07/212 Dear Lakshmi, A good effort at making HFers start thinking..thinking..I want to add, whenever one comes across a twin number where one of the singers is Lataji, she is undoubtedely better than her counterpart,I suppose u will agree. This particular song falls in a category of twin songs where the aforementioned notion does not stand true !!! Chandrashekhar. I beg to differ..relapsing into your words, whenever one comes across a twin number where one of the singers is Lata, other is undoubtedely better than her striking examples 1 above song 2 jeevan ke safar mein- kishore 3 jayen to jayen kahan- talat 4 mujhko is raat ki tanhai mein- mukesh 5 rimjhim gire sawan- kishore 6 teri ankhon ke siva-rafi 7 zindagi bhar nahi bhulegi-rafi, lata's version is I think a duet with Rafi, but still rafi's solo is mindblowing 8 mere mehboob- rafi 9 hamen aur jeene ki chahat -kishore 10 yeh raat yeh chandani- hemant , lata's version is exactly not the same but Hemant kumar 11 samay ae dheere- rudali - asha 12 jis dil mein basa tha pyar tera- saheli mukesh I dont remember more right now.. there are many many... and the BIGGEST EXAMPLE is KUCH NA KAHO... a singer(??????????) like kumar sanu sounds much better in this song but if you compare Geeta with others, Geeta's versions sound better.. two examples 1 na yeh chand hoga- shart 2 hai ye duniya kaunsi- sailab in both cases, hemant was the counterpart Of course this is my opinion cheers shama |

Aa Laut Ke Aaja Mere Meet (Rani Rupmati). Male version by Mukesh 2. Ae Dil Kahan Teri Manzil (Maya). Male version by Dwijen Mukherjee 3. Ae Mere Dil Kahin Aur Chal Gham Ki Duniya (Daag). Male version by Talat Mahmood 4. Ajanabi Tum Jane Pahechane Se Lagte Ho (Hum Sab Ustad Hain). Male version by Kishore Kumar. 5. Bas Ek Chup Si Lagi Hai (Sannaata). Male version by Hemant Kumar 6. Dil Beqarar Sa Hai Humko Khumar Sa Hai (Ishara). Male version by Mohammed Rafi. There are many more songs on my list. Notice that in each of these cases, I have picked a different male artist. What is interesting about this list is that the Lata’s version of these songs have been obscured by the corresponding male version against many different male singers. To be faire, in many of these songs, the two versions of the songs don’t have identical lyrics or the tempo of the female version is slower than the male version of the songs. And there are a handful of Songs where Lata’s version has done very well. For example, 1. Aaj Kal Me Dhal Gaya (Beti Bete). Male version by Rafi is equally popular. 2. Chandan Sa Badan (Saraswati Chandra). Male version by Mukesh is equally popular. Interestingly, other female artists, such as Asha Bhosle, Geeta Dutt and Suman Kalyanpur have fared better than Lata in this aspect. The following songs from these artists are as popular as their counterparts sung by the male artists. 1. Jahan Me Aisa Kaun Hai by Asha is as popular as the male version (Abhi Na Jao Chhodkar by Rafi) 2. Dil Laga Kar Hum Ye Samje (Zindagi Aur Maut) sung by Asha is more well known than the version sung by Mahendra Kapur. 3. Na Yeh Chand Hoga (Shart) sung by Geeta Dutt has done as well as the Hemant Kumar version. |
