In forty years of bollywood career, Guru has virtually sung with every singer who appeared on the scene during that period....104 male singers and 83 female singers to be precise (this includes songs with multiple singers on a song as well as non-singers lending their voice for some dialogues within the song...like Shtarughan Sinha having some dialogues in Jwalamukhi song Paan Bidi Cigarette Tambakoo Na Sharaab, Humko To Nasha Hai Mohabbat Ka Janab)....

Here, i intend putting up some of the chosen few songs with these singers (to the extent that i have the songs)...of course some of them might be the ones which i got from this very forum courtesy our fellow-members....

i start with Bhupendra, who, while, is not as versatile as Guru, but i do like the heaviness and depth of his voice...

Incidentally MD for all these is RD....he definitely liked Bhupinder a lot....may be because Guru's default pitch and Bhupinder's pitch were very close...as were Manna Dey's and Yesudas's....but then Guru was Guru...he could mould his voice, its pitch and throw depending upon the situation in the movie and the mannerism the actor...many are greats but then only a few are genious..

After a short trip to female jodies of KK (but after a relatively long gap), i turn back to male jodies...the jodi of Kishore Kumar and Mahendra Kapoor...

I dont know much about Mahendra Kapoor (and it would be great if people could add more on him), but whatever i know of him, i think there were some similarities in the initial struggle of KK and MK...Do Bechare Bina Sahaare, were left to compete against singing giants of that era with dice loaded against them, even though they had their set of mentors in the industry...their disqualification being, Guru was not formally educated in music while Mahendra Kapoor got positioned as poor man's Rafi......the similarity ended here itself hhowever....the difference, and major one at that, was that Guru did make a big (and big) place of his own under the sun, he ruled the scene for 17 years till his death leaving others in the fray gaping...on the other hand, Mahendra Kapoor, spent most of the time overshadowed under the glare of Rafi...

However with mentors like BR Chopra and Manoj Kumar backing him, he did come up with some of the timeless melodies like Sansar Ke Har Shai Ka--from Dhund, Neele Gagan Ke Tale--from Upkaar, Laakhon Hain Yahan Dilwale--from Kismat (??)...i love these songs and the way MK has sung them...absolute bliss...

MK, incidentally, was the most prolific male jodi partner of Guru after Rafi (and why not, there is so much of Rafi in him)...the duo sang 42 songs together (behind 70 that KK-Rafi sang together) besides 3 songs which are unreleased....Here is the complete listing:
