From BBC SPORTS on the internet, quoting REUTERS:
Melbourne, August 23: Former Australia captain Richie Benaud named his World XI of the 20th century on Monday, with England's Jack Hobbs and India's Sunil Gavaskar opening the batting ahead of Don Bradman at number three. India's Sachin Tendulkar and West Indies "Master Blaster" Viv Richards were named at numbers four and five followed by Pakistan's Imran Khan amd West Indian Garfield Sobers as the two all rounders. Australia's hard-hitting wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist was included at number eight with his Australia team mate Shane Warne filling the slow bowler's position. Imran and Sobers would also be able to share the bowling behind the pace duo of Englishman Sydney Barnes and Australia's Dennis Lillee. Benaud named four Australians in his side, with two players from West Indies, two from India, two from England and one from Pakistan. Leading South Africa players like batsman Graeme Pollock and fast bowlers Shaun Pollock and Allan Donald were unable to squeeze into the side, nor was Sri Lanka's world record test wicket-taker Muttiah Muralitharan and New Zealand's leading wicket-taker Richard Hadlee. The 73-year-old Benaud, a highly regarded television commentator, said on Monday in a statement he would release a DVD on September 9 featuring tributes to the players named in his Greatest XI of the 20th century. Benaud is chairman of a five-man selection panel for next month's ICC World XI One-Day International and World XI Test teams of the year, to be named next month in London. Leg spinner Benaud took 248 wickets at an average of 27.03 in 63 tests and retired 40 years ago as Australia's leading wicket-taker. If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.

discriminating behaviour of whitemen of
cricket with Murlitharan, the all time greatest spinner of world cricket. They are busy keeping Murli in controversies than accepting his genious and talent. ![]() Hope, after Murli takes 800 wickets in test cricket, he will be in the legends list.cricket is a game of uncertainity. Anything is possible in cricket. Ganguli ki barson pehle Natwest trophy MCC mein stands par phenki T shirt ki logon ne burai ki thi, wohi T shirt will now be a part of MCC's collection. MCC people have requested Ganguly to gift down the same for MCC collection.!! Remember Murli has taken 532 wickets at an average of 22.86 in 91 tests. other leading takers are far behind. Shane took 112 tests to reach the figure of 527 wickets. Next in the list is Glenn McGrath a fast bowler, taking 440 wickets in 97 tests.
