Talatsaab epitomises the music of the early 1950s. His soft voice reflected aptly the softness of his nature. I have had the privilege of meeting him and talking with him very often in those days. He was truly a gentleman, a very cultured, unassuming, handsome man. During the 50s when he was at his peak, he was truly a ladies man. He used to be very stylishly dressed and even top stars would be outshone by him. But above all that, it was the way he spoke that warmed him to all. He never talked ill of others, and even later when his assignments dried up, he retained his captivating smile.
In memory of that wonderful man, I present a few songs from my collection of Talat melodies. These are mostly recorded from records or tape or received as CDs from friends. So pl pardon for any bad sound quality. 1. Song : yaad jab aaye terii, apanii guzarii zindaii Film : Mohar (1959) Composer : Madan Mohan Lyrics : Rajinder Kishen Bit : 128 Duration : 3:04 And two of the finest duets of Talat saab, both from the film "Apni Izzat". It showcases Hansraj Behl's class as a composer. Talat is as soft as a feather in both melodies and is clearly at his artistic peak. Songs : 1. dil meraa teraa diivaanaa, Duration : 3:11 2. pyaar kii rut dora.ngii, Duration : 3:13 Singers : Talat & Madhubala Jhaveri Film : Apni Izzat (1952) Composer : Hansraj Behl Lyrics : Asad Bhopali Bit : 128 Hope you enjoy these songs. More will follow.. Regards, Shriram |

Shriram ji, I really wish I was too born at around 1930-1935 so that I too could have enjoyed the golden period of HFM.
Thanks so much for sharing your special moments with the great Talat sab. And another bunch of thanks for sharing a Geeta-Talat duet with HF. This is one of my personal favorites too, apart from "Arman bhare dil ki lagan" Best Regards Parag Please visit www.geetadutt.com

Shriram ji, I really wish I was too born at around 1930-1935 so that I too could have enjoyed the golden period of HFM. Hi Parag, Even if I was born in the 70s, I still can and do enjoy the music made 20-25 years before I was born. Don't despair for we still get the CDs / cassettes of the music made in the 50s, which IMHO was the Golden Age of Indian film music. Also we have such a great e-meeting place and wonderful people on our very own HamaraForums.... Shriramji, I second Parag's request for anecdotes of your meetings with Talat sahab please. Regards, SKG. =============================================== "Be the change you want to see in the world." - Mahatma Gandhi =============================================== |

I will definitely try to share my memories with you, dear Sirs. I am very amazed at seeing so many youngsters still being so passionate about music created before perhaps their parents were born. So many boys in their early 20s keep dropping in to my place talking about Anil Biswas and Khemchand Prakash. It is very happy as well as amazing. The internet has also played a role in this I think.
Today, I present the very first song Talat recorded - "sab din ek samaan nahii thaa", a non film recording under Kamaldas Gupta. Not a great song but a landmark song for the artiste. Regards, Shriram |
