I have always wanted to have a compilation of all the great lyrics and the meanings of the sticking words. Since we are having discussions on these here, I thought I would compile different poems we have looked at in this thread and put the meanings of difficult words. Then people can try to figure out the meaning for themselves or discuss the songs here or in a separate thread. We can do the same thing for all the lyricists that interest us. I invite all the urdu/hindi/sanskrit pundits to help us in understanding the beutiful lyrics
In the first post I will link all the songs we discuss

So here we go

chalo ik baar fir se and discussion and Sahir's rendition thanks to Mohib at RMIM

mere mehabuub kahii.n aur milaa kar mujh se and discussion

wo subah kabhii to aayegii and discussion

ye mahalo ye takhto ye taajo.n kii duniyaa and discussion

Hey NM! What a lovely thread!! Wonder how I missed it before... how can I participate?
Are you talking of only Sahir songs here? What about others? Different threads?
Understanding the beauty of lyrics is a fascinating chapter. Like the difference 'maazii' and 'maajhii' can make to the meaning...

Many years back, I used to hum the Mera Naam Joker song 'jeena yahaan' without thinking. There's a line in that: 'apne yahiin dono jahaan'..
I used to take the meaning of 'jahaan' as 'where' subconsciously. Till oneday it struck me that it was a meaningless sentence with that meaning. And then the other meaning 'world/universe' clicked into place...

Self - belief is the most potent force.
