Voice of punjab is nomore


This is really a sad news for all HFM fans particularly punjabis on both sides of the border.

When I came to know abt this news.....I immideatly checked all NEWS channels and surfed the whole net.

No where i found any link except for two links on zee and tribune. This is reallly shocking either the media is not interested or seems intentionlly doing coz Tribune was the first one to break news. not intending to give credit???

5-10 hrs had passed when the first news was posted on net...and still yet to see other links.......wats the reasons........???

Till 9.30pm I had yet to see any news on her On any news channel including DD.(or did i missed it?)

ek sec ke liya laga shayad...aisi koi sad news nehi hai.......Surinder ji abhi bhi hamare saath hai.

Last time I had heard abt her was when she was given padma shri(???). there was lot of resentment in pnjabi media delay in giving her award .......that too only Padma shri. !! do u think the punjab's voice only deserves a simple padma shri??? tht too is given just few months before her death....seems govt got hint abt her falling health.

Just check the list of those persons who have been given these three awards.......few are bit shocking names. anyway am leaving it since htis is thread for paying homage to Surinder ji. no bad words for any one. (but I just cant forgive these politicians.......).

Due to Partition punjabi zubaan was the biggest looser. Just see the way pjabi lang and artists are now treated.

Mujhe ek interview yaad aata hai shayad prakash\surinder kaur ka tha.... wo batati hai ki jab wo border per indian soldeir ke leye gaane jaati thii to border ke dusre taraf se pakistani soldeirs bhi kaafi pasand karte thay unke gaane. Same thing was true abt Noorjahan.
( saw this interview as a kid.......cant remeb face but one of these sis)
kitne hi gaane Surinder kaur ji ke pjabi artists ne copy kare.......Malkit, jaswinder narula etc
aisa hi kuch gaane upload karuga baad mein.......!!

Forget about awards, media is in the habit of putting punjabi singers down. We all have read the following statement again and again :-

Before Lata Mangeshkar changed the concept of playback singing, film industry was dominated by heavy nasalish punjabi voices like Noor Jehan, Zohra Bai and Shamshad Begum.

Once Raju Bharatan mentioned that 'mardana' (manly) nautch girl style of singing was coming to an end...

In Hindi film Industry, Surinder Kaur is mostly seen in bad light (not a fault of her own ofcourse) because of the famous incident involving film Shaheed (1948). When the film director rejected the thin voice of Lata for the 'mardana' voice of Surinder Kaur which made Ghulam Haider so furious.

Shamshad Begum voice is compared with that of eunuchs. And as mentioned by many film critics, Shamshad never got the recognition she deserved although she was the top 3 female singers in the 40s, 50s and sang almost 1400 songs (same amount as Geeta Dutt) and more songs than Mukesh and Talat Mahmood.

Nasal voice looks very folkish thats why even today 10-12 year "boys" are used as singers in our punjab.
Apart from nasal, any voice which is not sweet and has bit of roughness is considered as good folk voice( reshma, jaswinder etc)

Ummer bhai 2-3 din itna upset raha hoon.......I started searching for compostion of Media persons(north Ind).Dekhe to sahi kon kon se region aur kaya age, etc hai inn jounrlists ka.

Region wise to kuch nehi mila but caste wise mil gaya... tht I have posted in poltics forum.

Ek acha eg deta hoon.....Iam a subsriber of Times of India... which clai ms to be worlds largest eng newpper. Even that newspaper has not devoted space on her...( at least Delhi editon)

Even death ke 2-3 din baad bhi kisi tv channel per kuch nehi aya. special prgram to door...ek news dene ke leye bhi innka brodcast time kharab hota tha.

2 din pehle ki baat hai poore din.......A to Z sab channels per Mika and Rakhi madam chahiye rahe.
India TV per fulll one hr ka discsusin tha\ ndtv per bhi yahi chal raaha live cross Q with Rakhi.

Channel 7 to itna Ghatiya chaneel laga.....first time dekha.....can u belive..... ek hostess itne ghatiya way mein ek " maid " scandle ko dictate kr raahi thi. I dont know how to explain the things she ws saying.....any one who had seen tht program( crimnal) can tell u better. IT was D class. news reporting ho rahi thi ya koi movie ka scene. !! Har news ko masala bana diya hai.


Padma shri( lowest award in padma series) diya jaata hai 50 saal baad......agar vo pjab ki best talent thi she desreved better treatment. even agar talent na ho to govt regional contribution ko dhayan rakh kar past mein bhi award deti rahi hai.

Why her contribution to regional music ignored??? pjab politicians hi corrupt hai.

mera mood kharab hai...... issi liye bahut likh diya.....thts why I started a separte thread on her....Abhi time kam hai.......baad mein batata hon ....... : (
