Friends,
I am starting another thread similar to the SJ-Rafi saab thread to showcase another excellent combination, that of R.D. Burman-Mohd. Rafi. R.D. Burman (also known as Panchamda to his many fans) was in my opinion a very versatile music director. He brought about a new trend and sound to film music. He was one of the greatest tune-smiths out of the second-generation composers of the Golden Era. His variety and music was excellent, he experimented with his compositions, and his songs have a lasting value. For me RD Burman is one of my Top favourite composers of all time. Pancham had a special place for Rafi saab in his repetoire and Rafi saab was his second most used male singer after Kishore Kumar. The RD-Rafi output is an important chapter in the history of HFM and they produced many golden melodies together. It was through Rafi saab that Pancham made a mark in the world of music and broke through into the big league of composers. Similar to the SJ-Rafi thread, this thread will not only be for songs, but also for trivia and any other snippets, articles etc. related to the RD-Rafi combination. Again, if you have any requests or anything you would like to add, feel free to do so here. I hope every Rafian enjoys the RD-Rafi combination as much as I do ! ![]() ![]() ![]() Prince Ali |

Thanks Siddiqui bhai, ANT bhai and Humblerafi bhai for your comments, much appreciated. Indeed this combination was excellent, there are many great songs that they have produced together. There are also many hidden gems (that may have been overshadowed by other songs as ANT bhai mentioned) in their partnership that are all fantastic.
Pancham and Rafi produced great variety in their partnership. Rafi saab had alot of variety with other MD's as well and this partnership was one of them. From romantic to sad to pathos-filled songs, comic tunes, ghazal-type songs, western and indian-classical based gems, this combination produced it all. This brings me to the next song, a Rare treat for all Rafians. This is a devotional song sung with great feeling by Rafi and Asha. The interesting part is how Pancham has treated this composition. Pancham was known to be unorthodox in his treatment of songs, he would always try to experiment and be creative and try out new things with his songs. In this composition he has used heavy percussion as a backdrop to compliment the song, and at the same time has stuck to the roots of a conventional devotional song. Enjoy this gem in crystal clear quality !! ![]() Makhanchor Nandkishore Film: Takkar Year: 1980 Lyrics: Anand Bakshi Prince Ali |
