I suddenly had an urge to share my CD Collection with you guys (odd, isn't it). Don't worry, all songs are super quality, and uploaded at 128kbs.

Your post is indeed very thought-provoking. I am confident our admin folks will address the points you raised. In the meantime I am just going to think aloud with some stray thoughts:

Responding to one of my posts, Chitralekha had clarified that a repeat upload is not a problem if it is of a superior quality and mention is made as being a repeat. On my part, if I notice a repeated U/L, frankly, I don't bother about pointing it out ---none of my business --- I just don't download it. Unless it is drawn to my attention that it is of a better sound quality.

As for the rare songs part of it, I am not too sure in this regard. I look at it this way: I don't know the location of the person who is requesting the song, hence I don't know if a very common/popular song is easily available there. Sure, one can always order CDs online, but when someone is looking for just a song or a few songs, I think it would be unfair to a fellow-member.

Speaking for myself, quality is a lesser consideration when it is a rare piece. Even on HMV's audio tracks we can hear the scratch of the needle. I prefer that to the "Revival" (read re-mix) series.

As some of our fellow-members have said in the past, if we want superb quality we are in the wrong "HAMARA" --- we must be prepared to pay the superb price and buy the CDs from HAMARA CD. It would be churlish on my part to request for a song I don't have and then carp about the quality when someone takes the trouble to upload it.

I remain eternally grateful to HF for providing me with "Akhiyan sang akhiyan" and "Jaa tosey nahin" --- tracks not available with HMV. Plus the unreleased songs.
