We have been listening to this song in the voices of many singers starting from KL Sehgal, Jagjit Singh and many pakistani singers. But no where you find the credits for its lyrics. Recently, I happen to listen to Vividh Bharti, the presenter of Sangeet Sarita programme gave the origion of this song, which I want to share with HM members. He narrated that when the Nawab of Lucknow Wajid Ali Shah, known for his artistic qualities, was given "Desh Nikala" i.e. he was asked to leave Lucknow, he was pained. He expressed his sentiments and love for the motherland in the shape of ......Babul Mora Nehar Chhuto Hi Jaaye....... So, friends this song has been written by Wajid Ali Shah. A patriotic song but often associated with the "DOLI" i.e. at the departure of the bride from her parental home.
I shall like to have comments of the members on this song and its origion. brgarg |

Basically, Wajid Ali shah Sahab, were of highly romantic nature but later on he was influenced by Sufi's & the said song is outcome of sufian nature of Shah Sahab. [the incidence may be same of 'Desh Nikala']. Each line of the song has touched the highest level of sufian nature. BTW, always, great things comes out from great.
