Starting this topic to discuss some not so easily available songs featuring Mohd. Rafi - from the 1950s and 60s
Please feel free to add songs which you like. Here's one song I found in the film 'Akeli mat jaiyo' 1963 where Rafi partners Asha Bhosle - they sing for Agha and Minoo Mumtaz respectively. The movie stars Rajendra Kumar and Meena Kumari, has music by Madan Mohan ( a few pretty good songs ) and lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri. This song is a typical, humorous type, romantic song between the two sidekicks in the movie. Enjoy ! ![]() Sri "Jis din is duniya se nafrat aur khudgarzi mit jaayegi, us roz yeh insaan naachega, us roz yeh dharti gaayegi" - Rajinder Krishan (Maa baap 1959)

myawan - i'm glad you enjoyed the song - i'm always astonished how Rafi can sing these kind of songs - which are so different from his own personality !! He's truly a fantastic actor.

One of my favourite songs for many many years has been this wonderful Shankar jaikishan number which Rafi sang for the film Zindagi (1964). His voice is just simply superb and this must be one of his best 'matches' for Rajendra Kumar's voice. Rafi was such a great actor ... observe how he modulates his voice to match Rajendra Kumar on screen.
I still remember the day, as a young boy, when I went with my family to see this movie at the Basusree theatre in Calcutta ... and this song was buzzing in my head for several weeks after that ! Usually good Shankar Jaikishan songs become popular ...especially if tagged to a good cast... but this song has always astonished me by its elusiveness. A Rajendra Kumar -Vyjayantimala movie, a fabulous and typically 'popular'-type of tune from SJ, Rafi's voice and a big banner Gemini release with Ramanand Sagar as the Producer/Director ... and yet this song has managed to keep such a low profile for so many years !! Really astonishing. Anyway, here's this song for you to enjoy. I have retained some of the initial music from the DVD (simply because it sounded good) ... so you will hear Vyjyantimala speaking to the hero's dog (Honey) who has come to take her to the hero .. waiting at a nearby park. Then as soon as she reaches the park .... the famous, great strings of Shankar Jaikishan fill the air .... and then the great voice - so smooth, so well modulated - takes over for the rest of the time to transport you into heaven. What chance does any girl have if she really were to hear such a voice singing to her, in person ! Enjoy ! ![]() Sri P.S. Why are my mails becoming so loooooong nowadays ? ![]() ![]() "Jis din is duniya se nafrat aur khudgarzi mit jaayegi, us roz yeh insaan naachega, us roz yeh dharti gaayegi" - Rajinder Krishan (Maa baap 1959)
