Ab se main apney postings/uploads sirf is "dhaagey' mein karoonga. Mein nahin chahta kay meri wajeh se koi kisi-bhi-tareh ki taqleef mehsoos karein.
After singing-star Suraiyya's recent demise Lata-ji paid a lovely tribute to her, during which she recollected a song-recording with her and "another singer". Suraiyya-ji was then a bubbling spirit and started giggling, which got Lata-ji also into a 'giglacious" mood and it went on to become a giggling spree. Apparently the "other singer" was not amused and complained that she (Suraiyya-ji) was disturbing his singing. I can imagine a conscientious Rafi-sahab at the recording-studio, seriously humming the lines and rehearsing for the recording, only to be interrupted time and again by high-pitched giggles from his two female co-singers. My guess is it was at the recording of "Bheegi palkein ootha". And I wouldn't blame him for thinking of them by the name of the film they were recording for: "DO GUNDE"! If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.

This is a song from my childhood, in fact an unconscious memory from childhood. Then, I did not know the name of the movie, perhaps not even the name of the singer. Let alone have any appreciation for semi-classical music.
The song, the tune, the first few lines....they remained at the back of my mind all through...till adulthood. Until a friend hummed the lines, "Mun mandir mein shyam biraajey", when I desperately wanted to hear the full song again! But this was a rare track for a long, long time. I searched for a couple of decades, and eventually came across a video-tape of the movie and with great difficulty copied the track to an audio tape. Fortunately, much later I found an issue of the audio-tape of the movie "Raagini" and this recording has been converted from that. Had I never heard a single other song of Rafi-sahab, this song alone would have made me fida. Even if I become unable to U/L another song in this forum, I believe this upload will compensate in ample measure as a testimony to my devotion to Rafi-sahab. I sincerely hope you enjoy it as much as it means to me. If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.
