Just got the shivers after reading that article, memories of seeing her several times in person, another legend passes on...speechless...

Doston, Apna Tau Yeh Imaan Hai
Jo Bhi Jitna Saath De, Ehsaan Hai
Umr Ka Rishta Jodne Waale
Apni Nazar Mein Deewane Hai

Thanks for the memories HF. Bye Bye.

Voice of punjab is nomore

This is really a sad news for all HFM fans particularly punjabis on both sides of the border.

When I came to know abt this news.....I immideatly checked all NEWS channels and surfed the whole net.

No where i found any link except for two links on zee and tribune. This is reallly shocking either the media is not interested or seems intentionlly doing coz Tribune was the first one to break news. not intending to give credit??? sad.gif

5-10 hrs had passed when the first news was posted on net...and still yet to see other links.......wats the reasons........??? unsure.gif

Till 9.30pm I had yet to see any news on her On any news channel including DD.(or did i missed it?)

ek sec ke liya laga shayad...aisi koi sad news nehi hai.......Surinder ji abhi bhi hamare saath hai. sad.gif

Last time I had heard abt her was when she was given padma shri(???). there was lot of resentment in pnjabi media delay in giving her award .......that too only Padma shri. !! do u think the punjab's voice only deserves a simple padma shri??? tht too is given just few months before her death....seems govt got hint abt her falling health.

Just check the list of those persons who have been given these three awards.......few are bit shocking names. anyway am leaving it since htis is thread for paying homage to Surinder ji. no bad words for any one. (but I just cant forgive these politicians.......).

Due to Partition punjabi zubaan was the biggest looser. Just see the way pjabi lang and artists are now treated.

Mujhe ek interview yaad aata hai shayad prakash\surinder kaur ka tha.... wo batati hai ki jab wo border per indian soldeir ke leye gaane jaati thii to border ke dusre taraf se pakistani soldeirs bhi kaafi pasand karte thay unke gaane. Same thing was true abt Noorjahan.
( saw this interview as a kid.......cant remeb face but one of these sis)
kitne hi gaane Surinder kaur ji ke pjabi artists ne copy kare.......Malkit, jaswinder narula etc
aisa hi kuch gaane upload karuga baad mein.......!!

May God rest her soul in peace. and give courage to her close ones.

sorry for any mistakes

Sonu

forgive me if I miss replying or reading ur post............bit busy :-( !

PRIME MINISTER CONDOLES DEATH OF SMT. SURINDER KAUR
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

18:38 IST

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has condoled the death of eminent Punjabi Singer Smt. Surinder Kaur. In his condolence message, Dr. Singh said, “The sudden demise of Smt. Surinder Kaur, the nightingale of Punjab, is a grievous loss not only for India, but also for lovers of Punjabi folk music all over the world. She was a legend in Punjabi folk music and popular music and a trend-setter in Punjabi melody. Her music exhibited her commitment to basic human values. An artist with progressive ideas and a literary mind, she lived a very simple life. Punjabi culture has suffered a great loss, that is indeed difficult to fill. I send my condolence to her family, and to admirers of her musical gift. I hope that her immortal voice will motivate other artists to practice the rich Punjabi folk music tradition.”

Im not sure, but a reason why she didn't receive more "offical" appreciation than she did may be her bad habbit of drinking. As I have heard, she drank alot, which may be a reason for she did not get much offical acknowledgement. Dont get me wrong, she was a great singer, but I only try to explain...

I dont know which songs you are reffering too, but I know many of her songs that became famous was punjabi folk songs, meaning that the "new" singer didn't copy her directly. But we should be thankful for reviving and recording folksongs that may had been forgotten if she (and her sis) hadnt done the great job they did by recording these folk songs
