Film: 10 o' clock (1958)
*ring: Geeta Bali, Suresh, Sheikh Mukhtar
Music: Ram Ganguly
Lyrics: Shyam Hindi, Khaavar ZamaaN, Varma Malik

The only interesting part of this film was the effervescent Geeta Bali.
I do not even remember the storyline of this film, all I recall was the
energy of the heroine. This was an actress that one did not tire
of easily.
I picked up this film when I was going through a phase of simply
picking films that were B/W in the hope of finding decent music.
Well, I kind of hit paydirt with this film. The songs are all above average
with a couple of brilliant songs.
Mohammad Rafi sounds fantastic in his duet with Geeta Dutt. Asha has
a fantastic sad solo. I am sure EMI does not know where the originals
of this soundtrack, so sadly it will probably not be released. The copy of
the film that I saw was poor with cuts and skips and jumps. So that is
also reflected in the quality of the songs. I did a lot of splicing and cutting
to clean up the songs.

The only song mentioned in the Geetkosh that I could not find in the version
of the film that I saw was a Geeta Dutt solo "HoNThoN pe laali hai, aaNkh bhi
kaali hai". The GK mentions one more Geeta song "Chikki chikki" but I believe
it is the same as "Meri akhiyoN ke Dore gulaabi" which is uploaded here.

Enjoy the music.

Track 1:
Asha Bhonsle - Hum dil ki tasalli ka
Lyricist: Shyam Hindi

This is a mujra, and as was often predictably done, it was given to Asha.
Not my favorite in the film, but not too bad.

Track 3:
Geeta Dutt, Mohammad Rafi - O soNiye o soNiye jab jeet hui hai hamaari
Lyricist: Shyam Hindi

This is one of my 2 favorites in this film. It is a treat to hear Rafi's voice in
this. So young and so supple. They both sound like they are having fun
singing this duet.

Track 5:
Aagaaz-e-muhabbat dekha hai

I could not identify the singer for this song. It is not a voice that I
am familiar with. My copy of the Geetkosh does not identify the
singer either. Could somebody please see if the later edition has
more information? Or perhaps somebody could identify the voice.

Track 6:
Asha Bhonsle - ChaaNd nikla sitaare dheeme paDe
Lyricist: Shyam Hindi

THis is my favorite track in the film. My fondness for Asha's voice is no
secret to anybody on the Asha forum. However, my liking for this song
is not based on my bias. It is a lovely tune, beautifully sung. I only
wish this tune had been given to Asha in the late 60s/early 70s when her
voice had matured even further.

The song was unfortunately the worst affected part of the tape. To make
matters worse, the song is split in the film in 2 places. Thanx to Goldwave,
I spent a couple of hours splicing pieces together to create the version that
I am uploading. It hopefully mirrors the original recording of the song.
Interestingly, most of the skips in the song are NOT at the points where I
spliced but due to the bad quality of the film. cry.gif

Thanks SB, for yet another rare album and for your efforts to improve the sound quality. bow.gif

Wonder if I've even heard of this movie. Excellent upload! clap1.gif

hi sb,
thanks a lot for the great album.
hfgk wrongly lists the singer of this song as mukesh.but mukesh geet kosh and rajeev srivastav's book on mukesh don't list any mukesh song from ten o' clock
i feel the singer is g m durrani.

I agree with Mahesh. This sounds like GMD. The voice seems to match somewhat with a couple of his other songs (such as Baad Muddat Ke - G.M.Durrani, Lata - Aaiye - 1948).

The only other possibility of singer that was mentioned to me by a friend
was Shankar Dasgupta. Does anybody know his voice enough to validate
that? Unfortunately, I have no songs of his.

Here are repeat uploads of two songs of Shankar Dasgupta, for the purpose of comparison. Now, "over to our expert commentators", CM, SB, Hits!
