Lakshmi..this song brings lots of memories.
While i was doing my final year grad in Chennai, this song was a rage. I used to enjoy this song a lot...Our cook / gardener who is a native tamilian used to criticize Asha's singing saying that she stresses on wrong syllables..I dont know a word of tamil, yet used to enjoy this gem ! The willingness of these legendary singers to come out and sing in a language which they are not at all familiar shows their geniality.. i cherish that. After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

Venkat, I understand that it is not easy to sing in Kannada, Tamil,Telugu or Malayalam. No oldtimer except Asha has done it. Being a Tamilian, my Tamil is horrible. It is not easy to sing a tamil song. Asha has done a pretty good job. She has sung around 7 songs in Tamil. I will try to upload a few more.It was Mastreo Ilayaraja who gave her the chance to sing her first Tamil song. Lakshmi |

Lakshmi, you said it all. Actually Asha also says that it is tough to sing in south languages..unlike marathi which is flexible..
Here is a youtube link for the interview of Asha and her rehearsal...courtesy Lakshmi. Lakshmi... if you dont get the time to upload, do let know the titles, will search them out Cant wait to hear the rest Regards Bhavita This post has been edited by Bhavita: Mar 2 2010, 12:07 AM Joy, sorrow, tears, lamentation, laughter — to all these music gives voice, but in such a way that we are transported from the world of unrest to a world of peace, and see reality in a new way, as if we were sitting by a mountain lake and contemplating hills and woods and clouds in the tranquil and fathomless water. - Albert Schweitzer Without music life would be a mistake - Friedrich Nietzsche Where words fail, music speaks - Hans Christian Anderson Music is spiritual.
