"Tu kya samjhe tu kya jaane o deewane". Superb song, excellently sung. This song that you just uploaded is not as nice (tune-wise) as the one I mentioned. But it has a lot of energy and rhythm. Singing of course is on-par. Thanx for uploading this song. Cannot wait to hear the other songs. |

MD: Naushad Lyrics: Prem Saxena Year: 1957 Thanks Priya for this rare song from Bada Bhai (1957). I think the composer is Shaukat Dehalvi Nashaad & not Naushad. Eventhough the source 1 from CMC says Naushad, I agree with source 2 , source 3 & Source 4 given below mentions composer as Nashaad: Source 1 for Bada Bhai says Naushad: http://www.searchamovie.com/fb/BADABHAI(1957).htm BADA BHAI (1957) AJIT, KAMINI KAUSHAL, AMEETA, TUNTUN, NAZIR HUSSAIN, KUMKUM Produced By: K.AMAR NATH Directed By: K.AMAR NATH Music By: NAUSHAD FAMILY DRAMA *** Source 2 earthmusic.com for Bada Bhai says S.D. Mohd. Mohammad is absolutely correct. The music is by Naashad, not Naushad. I just checked with the Geetkosh. The song did not seem very Naushadesque. This film has only Asha as the female voice. Thanx for the correction Mohammad. |

Cannot wait to hear the other songs. Yes, as I said this is not the best. The best are tu kya samjhe (I think the track I got now is better than the RMIM one where vol fluctuates) and aa bhi ja bewafa with humming by a male singer. My friend said Rafi but the VN book says Aaga Sarvar. Who is he and what does the Geetkosh say? U must have that song too na--it was part of the collection but without the opening few lines raat ki tanhai... The 4th song is again not a great one but enjoyable. That is the diff with the classy mds. Even their avg songs are hummable. Also I notice so many of Asha's older songs are with obscure mds and so have the most minimal orchestras. Makes a diff when u have a reasonable amount of instrumental interlude. U never gave me Ur opinion of radha ke pyaare. ![]() |

The Geetkosh says that the music is by Bipin-Babul. I had always assumed that it was a Jaidev film. The "Tu kya samjhe" song has the panache and class to be a Jaidev composition. But now I am confused. Does anybody have the VCD/video/DVD of this film to check? (BTW, the Geetkosh does not mention the male singer's name for the "Aa bhi ja bewafa" song). About the Asha/Naushad combination, it is really not really a great one. Given that she is a good singer and he is a good composer, one can only expect a couple of good songs between them. I was never a big fan of the songs in "Amar", but the picturization of "Ik baat kahooN mere piya" really captures the rhythm of the song and enhances it and I ended up liking it a lot more (rest of the film is strange). "Radha ke pyaare" does not do much for me. The Asha/Naushad controversy was played out in the magazines. The story goes that he said to Raju Bharatan about Asha "Uski awaaz me bazaarpan hai" which Raju Bharatan promptly reported. Soon after, Naushad wrote back to the magazine saying that he actually said "Meyaarpan", NOT "bazaarpan". I somehow doubt that. The words are quite different and not easily confused. Truth is that Asha's voice did evolve throughout the 60s from each year to the next. Any hint of immaturity in the voice or in the style was ironed out, replaced with a much more robust quality and a lot of depth. Lata's voice in the 50s was already seasoned (she had a very short immature phase in her career) and it suited compositions by people like Naushad perfectly. While I find the comment in poor taste, I can see how Naushad would find Asha unsuited for his songs. And as Asha's voice evolved, so did his opinion. But it is hard to retract the previous comments. |

Tu kya samjhe is Jaidev as is poubara poubara. The duet and the song dayen bayen are credited to Bipin Babul. Were they his assistants? What is meyarpan? ![]() I remember seeing a tv interview of Asha where she talks of getting the national award for Umrao Jaan and a very famous and venerable MD who has known her from the very beginning said I did not know U sang this well and how that stung and hurt her deeply. The bitterness was obvious. From the context I felt it was Naushad. Fits the time frame of his change of comments too. I feel more than immaturity it is a matter of confidence. She sounds timid in very many of her earlier songs and it is very noticeable in contrast to her innovative energetic and enthusiastic singing of late 50s onwards. I too like ek baat kahoon though the style of singing is quaint. I am not really fond of radha ke pyaare. Kind of flat song. Waise Naushad has wonderful songs for Shamshad Begum and in a way I prefer his simpler music of the 50s compared to the heavily ornamented classics he is famous for. Had Asha been in the business a decade earlier he might have hjad tunes for her. ![]() |
