Dedicated Member Group: Angels Posts: 15469 Joined: 8-January 08 Member No.: 36307	(Majrooh) Dr. Vidya (1962) This movie tells the story of an idealistic educated woman married to a man from a small village with not much education. He suffers from that inferiority complex and disowns his wife. The rest of the story tells how the woman wins her husband back. Very pretentious and preachy movie that was lifted by Burmanda’s fine music and Vyjayanti Mala’s performance. There are several good songs in the film with Lataji’s songs “Khanke Kangna” and “Pawan Diwaane” topping the charts. Burmanda was assisted by his son RD. Interestingly title credits omit Rafi Saab’s name as one of the playback singers (he had two duets). Mukeshji’s name is listed. Mukeshji sang only one song in the film but that was not included in the final film. Rafi Saab’s songs are there in the film but he is not included in the credits. Go figure that out. But the movie begins with a murder and the suspense involves several family members and their relatives. Until last few minutes of the movie the identity of the real murderer is not known. The director was in quandary as whether he was not sure if he wanted us to watch a family in crisis or a suspense drama. The unsure nature of the handling between the two subjects makes the film weak. Chitragupt provides an average score. This movie tells a story of two brothers, one educated but unemployed and the other illiterate but devoted to his older brother. Kishoreda who had the major role in the film played the younger brother. His role had shades of comedy mixed with tragedy. It was simply amazing that how Kishoreda switched between comic situations to stirring pathos and vice versa so easily. It is too bad that he did not play many more serious roles. Hemantda’s music has several good songs in the film. Lata’s “Mere Haal Par” and Kishoreda’s “Chup Ho Jaa” are the standouts of the album. Especially the later song is simply superb. I am also including here a special version of this song with Ameen Sayani’s introduction. I am uploading these and other songs from this film in two back-to-back posts. It is Suman Kalyanpur’s song “Nanhi Si Gudiya”. Beautifully composed, the song was passionately sung by Sumanji. It lingers in your thoughts for a while. Some of the songs have faint hum in the background that I could not get rid of. For this reason I am uploading all the songs at a lower bit rate. Here are these… Dear Swarapriya the song TU PREM NAGAR KA SADHU is sung by RAFI SAHEB & SABITA BENNERJEE AS PER HFGK. Thanks

Dedicated Member Group: Angels Posts: 15469 Joined: 8-January 08 Member No.: 36307	(Majrooh) Gyara Hazar Ladkian (1962) The title refers to the number of working women in Mumbai when this film was made in 1962. K.A. Abbas co-wrote and directed this film. With a great title and Abbasji at the helm I expected a lot from the movie. I was hoping it will show the perils the working women face in a man dominated world. But the story dealt with only one such working woman and her problems dealing with her sisters. There are some good songs in the film. Especially both versions of the song “Dil Ki Tamanna” are outstanding. Please note that in Rafi Saab’s version of the song the audio quality between 2:04 and 2:30 (this is the second antara) is very weak. As usually the case with his movies, this one is also about patriotism, truthfulness and honesty amongst all odds. Modi’s character is even ready to send his son to gallows for the crime he committed. Madan Mohanji composed songs of different flavors. There are patriotic songs. There are racy songs. Then there is a classic song by Lata. “Unn Aankhon” is a beauty by Lataji. The song “Lo Aaj” is about 2 minutes longer in the VCD. But it is exactly the same song on CD. The VCD version was recorded at slower pace. I am uploading the CD version here.
