Anupama (1966)
This beautiful movie was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. He made so many fine movies but this should count as one of his top ones. The only way to describe this movie is to borrow its own title. Sharmila Tagore, stunningly beautiful in this movie, gave a smashing performance. From a father-fearing innocent woman to romantic awakening of a lover to rebellious spirited person, the whole gamit of spectrum of transformaton was superbly performed by Sharmilaji. Dharmendra gave one of his rare subdued performances. Not since Bimal Roy's "Bandini" that he displayed such a restrained performance. Too bad he did not act in more movies like this one. Instead he ended up as another he-man turned action hero. Then there is Hemantda's superb music. There are only five songs in this movie. But each one of them is a sparkler. Kaifi Azmi saab penned the beautiful lyrics. My personal favorites are Ashaji's "Bheegi Bheegi Faza", Lataji's "Kuchh Dil Ne Kaha", and Hemantda's touching solo "Ya Dil Ki Suno". Now for details of the songs and the songs themselves ... This post has been edited by swarapriya: Sep 16 2008, 10:44 AM Attached image(s) |

Kuch Dil Ne Kaha... Kuch Bhi Nahi...
Kuch Aisi Bhi Baaten Hoti Hain..... Kuch Aisi Bhi Baaten Hoti Hain..... The lyrics are just out of the world & Hemant Kumar's music is haunting... A small info about "Ya Dil Ki Suno" - Dharmendra was of the opinion that Hemant Kumar's voice does not suite him..... but as Swarnapriya Ji aptly pointed out this role was a landmark in Dharmendra's career - and till date the film remains true to its name - 'Anupama' = 'Un-Paralleled'. Thank You Swarnapriya Ji - for this evergreen album This post has been edited by vdsachin: Sep 16 2008, 10:35 AM |

This "little" movie remains "bemisaal" for generations of moviegoers. Cheers, Swarapriya |

Thank you for this album Swarapriya Jee
I'd heard Ya Dil Ki Suno many times before and just love Dheere Dheere Machal - one of the best solo songs in Lata's career. Haven't heard the others but will sample them tonight!!! Kind Regards Faraaj Kind Regards Faraaj Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. - Victor Hugo There is only one better thing than music - live music. - Jacek Bukowski I hate music, especially when it's played. - Jimmy Durante No good opera plot can be sensible, for people do not sing when they are feeling sensible. - W. H. Auden |

One of the most poignant films ever made in Hindi film world, the film hasnt lost it's sheen over the decades, a fitting tribute to Hrishi Da's calibre..
Lata counts " Kuch dil ne suna" as one of her top 10..and who can forget Dharmendra standing in the low lit room singing his heart out..ofcourse with the amazing lyrics of Kaifi Azmi..Even now, offhand i can recall the lines " Kya dard kisi ka lega koi...itna to dard kisi mein naheen.." How prophetic and conscientious the lines sound in incomparable Hemant Da's voice !! Arent the lines suitable in present day's changing lifestyles too ?? Music will never run out of fashion..it just goes vintage like a wine.. Personally music awakens conscience and tries to makes me a better humanbeing. Where people look forward to religion, i look for Music to guide me through life. SP..thanks a lot for posting such nice collections end to end. I am just running out of vocabulary.. After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

Music will never run out of fashion..it just goes vintage like a wine.. Wow! That is beautifully said. I am just spellbound by these powerful words. Music does bring beautiful magic to life. You're not just "Simplefable". It appears to me that you're a fabulous fable. Cheers, Swarapriya |
