Thanks for the correction Parag. My friend wasn't sure. From the voice it sounded very young Geeta dutt so I guessed it must be 40s. I have updated the post. (not updating file credits now though since people have already started downloading)

Yes Parag those are the only two geeta dutt songs in the movie. Other songs are sung by Asha ji, Sulochana Kadam, Usha Mangeshkar and others. I also don't have them.

This is a particularly wonderful song. Request one of the generous members to upload the full version of the song with the extra paragraph. The one I have seems inspired from the soundtrack which had one paragraph less. Music of each paragraph is uniquely done by Naushad sahab. Wish he had Geeta ji sing more for him.

This is one of the few light natkhat duets sung by Geeta ji and Talat ji. I still recall my memories when I listened to this some 18 odd years back on the the audio cassette "Duets to remember". That time I did not know much of Geeta ji's songs and I found this song so funny.
Any one having this cassette, can you please scan the cover and share the image. I remember that the cover had a very beutiful pic of Geeta ji.
Thanks HB for taking me back in time.

This is what happens when you type in sleep! Yes Kamini kaushal was the heroine of the movie. Paro (who also acted in do bhai) plays the role of the gypsy girl with whom dileep sahab gets most songs to dance with! She is sort of the vamp in the movie. Jeevan is the other major character in the movie. Don't remember what exactly was Shyama ji's role in the movie. Don't know if she had graduated to a heroine yet. Cuckoo is also there in the movie.

Thanks for the detailed explanation Exon ji. I already had the video but didn't notice that the full second paragraph is there in it. Seems to be a case similar to Aaj Sajan Mohe Ang Laga Lo from Pyaasa whose version with all lines I have not heard till now. Maybe I'll sit and try to merge them one day!
Finally, hosa varshada shubhaashayagalu. May it bring happiness to lovely music fans like you who share so much.

Uploading a rare bengali Geeta song I got recently. It is a non-film one and I have heard it for the first time. I didn't know Geeta ji has sung for Salil Choudhary in Bengali. He is both the lyricist and MD of this song like many of his bengali non-films. Hope you all like the song. Are there any others?

Thanks for the detailed explanation Exon ji. I already had the video but didn't notice that the full second paragraph is there in it. Seems to be a case similar to Aaj Sajan Mohe Ang Laga Lo from Pyaasa whose version with all lines I have not heard till now. Maybe I'll sit and try to merge them one day!
Finally, hosa varshada shubhaashayagalu. May it bring happiness to lovely music fans like you who share so much.
Hildebrand,
ISB's lyrics page indicates 'HMV CD Mother India/Son of India sdtrk' as the audio source for this song lyrics. Therefore, a full version of the song should exist; perhaps in older copies of the film.
Best wishes for the new year to you too.

Sorry for the confusion. As I told you, just like Dorey in "Finding Nemo", I suffer from short term memory loss!
Thanks to Nabee ji and Exon for providing the information. Many thanks to you HB for coming up with these nice songs.
Keep up the great spirit. You are one of the consitstent contributors here and one of the most valuable finds of recent times. Its a pleasure knowing you as a music fan and as a friend as well.
Nice to see your post here. We hope you are finding some interesting and many not before heard songs of Geeta ji.
Take care and do keep in touch.

Next reuploading four Geeta Songs of Awaara Ladki(1967). These were uploaded by Erum ji earlier in SKS. Thanks Erum ji for making these rare songs available. (Offtopic: A Mubarak Begum song from the movie is missing. If available with members do give a link here after upload in relevant forum).

LEFT RIGHT Geeta Dutt, Unknown Male Awaara Ladki(1967) Dhaniram 192 kbps 03:00
Male voice sounds similar to S.D. Batish but I don't think he was active around 1967. It could be S. Balbir or Dhaniram himself. I can't listen and say for sure. Senior members, any conjectures?
Jab Nain Se Nain Mile (Alternative title: Door Desh Ka Raja) Geeta Dutt, Rafi + Other voices Veer Babruwahan Chitragupt Anjum Jaipuri 128 kbps 03:53
One source indicates that Binapani Mukherjee is the other female singer while another says that it is Amirbai Karnataki (my ears agree with that too but I maybe wrong). There appear to be two other singers than Geeta ji and Rafi sahab. The other male singer has some commonality with Durrani sahab and S.D. Batish but again I am not sure. Perhaps senior members can give a better idea.
The list of eight songs of this movie is available on earthmusic is available here: http://www.earthmusic.net/hindi-film-songs.php?searchtype=movie&movie=babruwahan
Request upload of the balance songs by generous members. How many of these were sung by Geeta ji? Perhaps someone holding hfgk can give details of the other songs of the movies. Thanks in advance to uploader of songs and details.

Uploading what is probably Geeta ji's last recording in Bengali. In Bengali, geeta last recorded on the occasion of Durga Puja in 1971 in album Ei to holo porichoi. Music for both songs by Swapan-Jagmohan. They were:- 1) O Bondhu Shono and 2) Anjan Diyechhi Chokhey. Probably done after the Anubhav songs according to the friend who gave the above information.
I am looking for the first song. If its available with somebody do please upload it.

You are most welcome Rajan ji. I agree with you about this. In between Anil da used to innovate with music. Some people may call it an OP inspiration in some ways!
IMHO, we have got this habit of labeling anything that is rhythmic Punjabi folk as "OPish". Many senior composers (Naushad, Shyam Sunder, Husnalal Bhagataram to name a few) had used this rhythmic magic of Punjabi folk very effectively even before OP composed for his first film in 1952.
Cheers Parag
Posted by: hildebrand Feb 5 2009, 11:28 PM
I share the opinion. Thats why I said "some" would call it OPish. What people call OPis is really punjabi folk. Vinod and Hansraj Behl were other masters at it.
Thanks HB for sharing this. At one point in time all the KK fans and GD fans were very desperately looking for this song. Thanks to Pinky who first shared it with us (as far as I remember)

You are most welcome Parag. I guess, it was so difficult to find because of its "hit" status! If one listens to the lyrics, its easy to see why the censors were apprehensive! I am grateful to fans like pinky who share so many songs for us. They often make our days! Its difficult to remember each member though (hence had made thankyou thread earlier with thanks in bulk!). We should all share the songs with us. It is the few music lovers who make rare songs "rare" by not sharing them. These songs are not the property of one individual. They belong to the artists who made it possible and we should do whatever possible to showcase their immense talent by sharing and highlighting them. Also once we have shared them we should realise that the songs get a life of their own and now belong to the world (for which they were made in the first place). So, if I upload a song never uploaded before (happens now and then though rare) I never accept any attribution if its reuploaded. The song belongs to the artists afterall not to me.

Thanks HB, Vinod and Hansraj Behl are some of the least discussed composers on HF.

They may be least discussed but their music is wonderful. Its interesting to note that both these singers were in competition in punjabi film industry in very early 50s for top position. Hansraj Behl made it to the top. Vinod didn't get much offers there as well inspite of hits and died a sad death.

Yes, it is true. I have seen a CD compilation of Hindi Film songs of Hansraj Behl sahab (unfortunately no song of Geeta ji in that compilation). He was one of the top composers in Punjabi film music as well for a few years. Let us thank the genius of Hansraj Behl sahab for excellent songs he composed for us to enjoy even after more than 50 years

Some interesting facts about Hiren Bose, the composer of Rami Dhoban (1953).
http://www.citwf.com/person104848.htm
The filmography suggests that he was a film director for many films from the 30s and 40s. As a composer he seems to have given music for just a few films.
Does any one have any knowledge about this MD?
Thanks in advance

Some information from a veteran music lover and friend Dr. Jyotiprakash Guha ji
Hiren Bose was active in Kolkata right from the 20s as a film maker. His work in Hindi film industry came much later.
I have not heard/seen any of his earlier films or songs. May be knowledgeable members can throw some light.

Nice to see you active on Geeta ji's forum after quite some time. I am just a collector and re-uploader. Let us thank those great contributors who took pains of converting vinyls, audio cassettes, LP records and 78 rpm records into mp3s for us.

I also haven't heard of Mr Bose. Myself. Hopefully other members shall be able to throw more about him. He seems to have been a director, actor, MD all rolled into one! His imdb profile is available here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0097872/ Its fairly interesting. It has his filmography as well. He's done only one film after Rami Dhoban and then there are no films for remaining 30 years of his life mentioned.

No, one can only see a % of total no of posts. In my case, say for example, more than 70% are in Geeta ji's forum. Earlier there was a member by name Sajda. 100% of her posts were in Mohd Rafi sahab's forum.
There is no way (AFAIK) to find out % of your uploads by sub-forum.

You are most welcome Parag. Its ironic that in a period where people like S.D. Burman, O.P. Nayyar were giving one-one song to her, MDs like Chitragupt were giving her all the female solos in their movies. Would you be having the above two mentioned songs from the movie?
Posted by: parag_sankla Mar 18 2009, 09:56 PM
HB, if I remember correctly Mahesh posted the song "Aye bewafa yeh toh bataa kya hain meri khata" some time back. I will check my desktop/back-up HDD and re-upload it here.
Thats another lovely song of Geeta ji, in total contrast to the song "Dekho jee dil naa todo" from the same film.
Speaking of Burmanda and OP, with all the due respect to both of them, they both seem to have this habit of forgetting the singers (Geeta ji and Shamshad ji) who gave them great hits in the initial phases of their careers. Ex: Do Bhai, Shabnam for Burmanda and many for OPN.
Burmanda seems to have been opting for Asha ji and Lata ji in late fifties and OPN going all the way to Asha ji (with just a few songs for Shamshad ji) from 1958 onwards.
Whatever be the reasons!

Hmm. We can add SJ and MM to the list as well.

To be fair to SJ, they tasted super success with their first film Barsaat where all the songs were sung by Lata ji. They stuck to Lata ji till the end (except a few occasions when Lata ji was not singing for RK or when Sharda was introduced). IMHO, they did not get huge success because of Shamshad ji and then forgot her. Subject to correction!
About Madan Mohan. Yes, in the first film Lata ji did not sing for him and the songs were indeed sung by Shamshad ji and Meena Kapoor ji. AFAIK, from the second film onwards Lata ji started singing for him and since then it was Lata ji all the way (again with a few songs given to Asha ji and Geeta ji).
Great discussion!

Hi friends
Found that there is another rare song of Geeta ji composed by Ram Ganguly. The film is Saaya (not sure what is the year).

This is factually incorrect. The number of songs sung by Asha for MM is quite close to LM, although LM definitely has more songs. Just that Lata songs have been more popular to this day (with some help from HMV, of course)

I am no expert on Asha ji, so you could be right. This is what Shirish Kanekar had to say about Madan Mohan though :
When you subtract Lata Mangeshkar from Madan Mohan, what will you get? May be some Talat Mahmood, thats all! The fact is that Madan bhaiyya gave all (say most) of his songs to his Raakhi-sister Lata and she too did a great justice to his songs.
Thanks for pointing out the facts.
Parag
Posted by: parag_sankla Mar 24 2009, 09:39 PM
Also the main point of discussion was that unlike SDB or OPN, Madan Mohan never gave a lot of songs to Shamshad ji and Geeta ji in the initial phase of his career. So there is no question of him "deserting" them.
Again, these are conceptions and subject to every one's likes and choices.
Cheers Parag

Parag, I'm no expert on Asha ji myself. Till, say ,a year back, I also thought that Madan Mohan mostly worked with Lataji, so strong was the association in my mind because of all the lovely songs their collaboration had produced. It did come as a surprise to me when I saw the facts and figures.
There is factual inaccuracy in Shirish Kanekar's statement when he says "Madan bhaiyya gave all (say most) of his songs to his Raakhi-sister Lata", but the point is taken. Madan Mohan's best compositions have indeed been for Lata.
For those interested, here are some statistics based on VN's books on Lata and Asha.
Lata sang 210 songs for MM in 68 films Asha sang 190 songs for MM in 72 films
Aditya
Posted by: parag_sankla Mar 31 2009, 01:26 AM
Hi Aditya
Since I never thought about MM-AB association till date, I never imagined that Asha ji would have sung so many songs for MM sahab.
Shirish Kanekar is probably going by the popular notion about MM.
Of course I stand corrected on this point.
The basic point of our discussion was about MM and Shamshad ji. I am not sure how many songs she sang for MM!
I must admit you are good at numbers!

Would love to see the video of this only duet of Nutan and Geeta ji. This film launched Tanuja as a young actress (and the film was produced by mother Shobhna Samarth). Most likely Geeta ji gave voice to Tanuja (or was it filmed on Helen?)

Uploading a lesser heard Lata-Geeta duet from Baap Bete which has a nice punjabi tune. Was reminded of this song from a query in punjabi forum between sonu ji and BTM ji.
I found an interesting discussion on SKS yahoo group by Samik ji on this song.
QUOTE
2) Oonchi neechi raahen, yeh pyaar ke raste tedhe, dola
This very rare Geeta-Lata duet is simply a gem ! As we know, inspite of being a Punjabi Madan Mohan underplayed his regional roots and tried to achieve a more universal style. He composed very few 'purely Punjabi' and even fewer folk songs. However, whenever he did, he created magic. With 'Chhai Barkha Bahaar' in 'Chirag', and more so, with this song. Its more than just another Punjabi folk tune...the melliflous melody elevates it to a much higher status. And this is where Madan Mohan shows his class. Geeta Dutt not only matches up to Lata, she sometimes sounds more alluring than her.

What you say is a well known fact. That is just Samik's opinion which quite a few devotees of a popular playback singer may have who are not exposed to the range of Geeta ji. Yes, The chinese have some really nice proverbs to share. (even our own Chanakya Neeti has some interesting ones). Here are some more interesting Chinese proverbs:- A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. A rat who gnaws at a cat's tail invites destruction. Do not employ handsome servants. Do not fear going forward slowly, fear only to stand still. Give man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. He who strikes the first blow admits he has lost the argument. If heaven made him, earth can find some use of him. If you don't want anyone to know, don't do it. If you are patient in one moment of anger, you will escape a hundred years of sorrow. If you bow at all, bow low. Teachers open the door. You enter yourself. Keep your broken arm in your sleeve.
And here's one I didn't understand:- When you are left with only two pennies in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one and a lily with the other.
Can someone throw light on the second part.

Lily and good luck. Lily had to be told "Don't be silly."

Yes, The chinese have some really nice proverbs to share. (even our own Chanakya Neeti has some interesting ones).
And here's one I didn't understand:- When you are left with only two pennies in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one and a lily with the other.

Just came upon this interesting thread. and could not resist commenting on this one...
Buying a loaf would be buying something essential and basic for survival, and in the same token buying a lily (beauty?...taking pleasure in the beauty of life?) with the other penny, makes the buying of the lily into something as essential and basic for survival. Now that I have flatfooted this elusive proverb into some heavy-handed homily... time to say ... Lily don't be silly...

Thanks madhvi for your take on the proverb. It was a very interesting take on it.

It's the narrow line between being a fan and a fanatic that makes this difference. I have noticed this particularly betwwen fans of two legendary male singers.

Yes, I've read one incident that proves it. Although the veracity of this incident is not known, one of the legends is believed to have slapped a fan when he made a comment to the effect of "aapne unki chhutti kar di". This was sometime in 1969-70 when this legend tasted super success and the media proclaimed the arrival of the ne "No. 1" singer.

Sachin, these are actually 2 songs, but in the film they play as a continuous song i.e. Mahendra Kapoor sings first and then Geeta Dutt takes over. So while it's not really a duet, it plays as a 'duet' in the film, hence the term pseudo duet. There have been many instances like this in other films.

That could be because during Getta Dutt's hey days Kishore Kumar output as a singer was not as much as other singers. If I'm not mistaken, he has just around 15 duets with Lata till 1960, which will be as much as his duets with Geeta Dutt.
Aditya
Posted by: parag_sankla Apr 10 2009, 11:42 PM
Oh, this could be possible. I never thought about this angle.
BTW, total no of duets (Hindi and Bengali) sung by Kishoreda and Geeta ji is 13 which includes 1 song which went into censor problems and was later re-recorded as a duet of Kishoreda and Asha ji (with different wordings of course).
Thanks Aditya

The other reasons could be that: 1) Kishoreda was not taking his career as a singer very seriously. In fact he sang a lot of songs for himself and Dev Anand in that era 2) The composers with whom Geeta ji worked and with those Kishoreda worked were not very common (except Burmanda)
May be some more reasons...

Parag, I don't have the exact number but has to the maximum among all female singers who sang with Kishore Kumar. But on the whole, till around 1960 Kishore Kumar only had roughly 200 songs to his credit, which is less than most of the legendary names that come to mind (Lata, Asha, Rafi, Geeta, Shamshad, Mukesh, Manna Dey...even Hemant Kumar, though I might be mistaken about that). I think Asha-Kishore duets during this period should be 50 at the max.
Incidentally, Asha Bhosle sang the maximum number of songs among all playback singer (male + female) in the 1951-60 period.

Since you asked about the story of Darogaji, this is what I know a bit. Nargis plays a flower seller who falls in love with the Daroga of the village (played by P. Jairaj). And then a series of calamities fall on the poor Nargis. I do not remember where I read this, but seems to be a typical late 40s film.

The tool I use (clive) downloads the video as mp4 which actually had 224 kbps audio. I just downconverted it to 192 kbps to meet the ratio requirements. I extracted it using ffmpeg.
These tools maybe available for the mac. Just have a look around.

You are most welcome Rajan sahab. Its one of my favourite Geeta songs of the late 50s. She shows why she's the queen of bhaav gayaki in the song. Pity, manohar sahab hasn't been proliferant in HFM. We could have used more such melodies.

You are most welcome rajnish ji. I agree 100% with you on that. I am in the same boat where I also find outstanding songs irregularly. Both these songs do stand out. The former is a nice work by Rajendra sahab. His thought provoking lyrics are executed well by Geeta ji. He used to come with great gems now and then. The latter is another stand out for its singing.

I 100% agree with you on this. This is one of the loveliest songs with excellent lyrics. I am once again thankful to the kind souls at HF who shared this extremely rare song with us. I had never heard about it before joining HF. IMHO, Geeta ji excels in singing such songs with "bhaav". One of the innumerable songs to prove her mantle!
Cheers Parag

In my opinion Geeta Roy is the best Bhaav Gaayki singer in HFM. You know who's the other.

Is this Manohar a different person than the one among Basu-Manohari, who were long time assistants to R D Burman?
Very little (practically no) information is available on this composer.

I found the following movies listed under Manohar (Manohar Lal Khanna)
Rakees (1948), Rangeela Musafir (1950), Chingari (1955), Passing Show (1956), Mr. Q (1958), Dr. Z (1959), Do Dushman (1967)
This is an unverified listing.

Thanks for the information. Again, Manohar and M L Khanna are 2 different persons. M L Khanna is a lyricist and father of composer Usha Khanna.
Aditya, thanks for the confirmation.

Parag,
I think, you may be right. M. L. Khanna wrote songs and sang. He used a few other names such as K. Manohar, Javed Anwar. But I am not sure if he composed. Thanks for the correction.

I have not heard much of Manohar's songs per say, but his compositions in Dr. Z seem to be very promising.
